Derek McInnes faces a challenging season ahead with Rangers in the William Hill Premiership.

The Scottish manager has already put pressure on himself from the get-go, promising immediate success at the Gers.

In order to aid the 54-year-old head coach's ambitions in G51, Andrew Cavenagh has splashed the cash in the opening few days of the transfer window.

Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur and Dan Neil have moved to Ibrox this summer and some of them will surely be involved in the opening game.

Before the opening game of the 2026-27 campaign at Tannadice Park on 31 July, the Glaswegian outfit could certainly add to the five signings they've made.

McInnes already has three players who could be immediate fixtures in the starting lineup following their arrival.

Ivor Pandur an obvious choice for Rangers as defensive dilemma clear

Jack Butland has joined Hull City, with Pandur joining the Gers in a separate deal.

The Croatia international will undoubtedly be the number one going into next season after the Light Blues spent £6million on him, and is more or less guaranteed to start against Dundee United ahead of Liam Kelly.

Lawrence Shankland has reunited with McInnes at Ibrox after leading the line for him at Hearts and he may play alongside Youssef Chermiti at Tannadice Park.

As for the defence, that's where the Scottish manager has some major decisions to make after McCrorie and Godfrey's signings, but the former Bristol City ace seems more likely to start for the Glaswegian outfit at right-back.

Dujon Sterling's consistent fitness issues could be a concern for McInnes at right-back, while John Souttar feels like the best partner for Emmanuel Fernandez at the moment after starting together this season.

Who else will make Derek McInnes' first starting lineup vs Dundee United?

Tuur Rommens feels like a no-brainer inclusion at left-back for McInnes.

With the Scottish manager preferring a 4-4-2 formation at Hearts, the midfielder may see some major changes, especially if Nicolas Raskin leaves Rangers.

For now, Connor Barron seems to be the perfect partner for Tochi Chukwuani, given his robust playing style and the fact that McInnes' preference for building around a Scottish core is well known.

Findlay Curtis is the type of player the ex-Kilmarnock boss will relish having and he could be the preferred right-midfielder for next season.

Djedi Gassama showed his qualities on occasion under Russell Martin and Danny Rohl and the left side of the midfield could be where he shines for the Gers soon.
