Bobby Madden gets out rule book to answer 'massive' Celtic vs Rangers controversy
Celtic fans remain furious Emmanuel Fernandez was not sent off for Rangers in Sunday's clash.
The defender, already on a yellow card for a challenge on Camilo Duran, appeared to foul Benjamin Nygren.
Only 15 minutes were on the clock at that point and the general consensus was that Beaton did not want to send off a player that early into the game.
Celtic players wanted to see Fernandez dismissed but the centre-back, who struggled at times in the first half, was given a reprieve.
Rangers went on to earn a 1-0 win at Celtic Park thanks to Ryan Naderi's first-half strike.
Former Scottish Premiership referee Bobby Madden has now had his say on the Fernandez controversy, which continues to rumble on.
Should Emmanuel Fernandez have been sent off vs Celtic?
Madden certainly seems to believe that should have been the case.
The former official regularly posts clips on his personal Instagram page in which he analyses controversial topics from Scottish football.
This one very much fits into that category given the magnitude of the call and the fact Rangers went on to claim all three points.
"A massive decision in the Old Firm game," Madden said, with the laws of the game highlighted on the screen.
"Let's look at the criteria required for a caution. It doesn't matter if a player has already been cautioned, or what time of the match it is. The criteria that you can see listed here should be considered.
"If we look at this situation in isolation, the attacker players the ball beyond Fernandez. If you pause the situation here, you will see that this is a clear promising attack.
"Listed within the rules is 'unsporting behaviour stopping a promising attack'. During the match, the referee did not award a free-kick for this offense.
"If he had, a yellow card should have been issued. We also need to remember that VAR cannot get involved with issuing second yellow cards - only where an incorrect yellow card has been issued."
This is very much one of those in which Rangers fans will argue the right call was made; Celtic fans the opposite.
What history will not change is the 1-0 scoreline for the Gers on their fierce rivals' own turf.
Fernandez set for busy few weeks
Fernandez is one of 10 Rangers players off on international duty as he has been called up by Nigeria.
Eric Chelle's side take on Madagascar and then Guinea-Bissau over the next eight days in competitive action.
There is then a friendly with Russia on 6 October, four days before Rangers return to action against Kilmarnock at Ibrox.
It is far from ideal for Derek McInnes that so many of his squad are jetting around the world, but this is the drawback of having a talented squad packed full of internationals.
