Chris Sutton warns Emmanuel Fernandez after Rangers drama vs Celtic

Emmanuel Fernandez did not enjoy the best of starts to Sunday's Old Firm between Rangers and Celtic.

The athletic defender was once again in the heart of a hybrid back three, but was put under immediate pressure.

With Camilo Duran starting over Kasper Hogh, the Bears were forced to defend consistent long balls.

Fernandez was booked early for dragging down the striker in the first five minutes, as the drama appeared to follow him.

Derek McInnes was also booked early, as the feisty tension continued throughout the first half.

Chris Sutton did warn Fernandez over his conduct as the half went on, with some nervy altercations.

What happened after Emmanuel Fernandez booking?

After trying to win a free-kick, he was warned about simulation and a second yellow, but John Beaton didn't agree.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Main Event, Sutton started the conversation and wasn't too impressed.

"He's trying to buy a free-kick there," he said.

"He needs to be careful Fernandez, he's on a yellow card."

Scott Arfield agreed too after another altercation with Benjamin Nygren, which could have seen him pick up another card.

"He looks rattled," the former Bear said.

How did first half go for Rangers v Celtic?

Just like last week, there were no away fans in attendance.

But, unlike Celtic, they were able to weather the early storm that was expected in the opening 10 minutes.

Fernandez's booking was a result of that pressure around him, but Rangers started to get their foot on the ball soon after that.

Dan Neil and Nicolas Raskin are controlling the ball, and there is a real threat out wide if they can find that final pass that's been missing.

It was route one that opened the scoring for the Blues though, with Ryan Naderi tapping home a rebound after a long-range Kim Minsu volley.

That was exactly what they deserved, and should settle the nerves that the likes of Fernandez may have had.

It should have been two, as Djeidi Gassama did everything but score with a wonderful touch and chip.

If Fernandez was rattled early on, it was the Celtic support who were raging for the majority of the half as they were played off the park again.
