McCoist hasn't seen the Gers play like that in a while.
While the Light Blues came into the Old Firm derby having won four games in a row, they haven't been convincing, making the display at Ibrox all the more surprising.
The Govan side's icon seemed pleased that McInnes opted to play two strikers up top, which has become somewhat rare in modern football.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 14 September, McCoist said: "I haven't seen Rangers play like that in a long, long time. I was delighted. I know they've picked up a little bit. I can't get carried away.
"It was a poor start, a nightmare in Europe and then I think three or four 1-0 victories. Not convincing. Clean sheets but not convincing. I couldn't see that performance and that result coming.
"I thought Dan Neil was brilliant, probably Man of the Match. The centre-backs defending. But it was kind of a throwback. The two centre-forwards up front, Naderi and Kelsy, just kind of went a lot more direct."

Coming into the game, many thought Celtic would have a midfield advantage if Rangers played with two strikers.
McInnes ensured that wasn't the case, with James Penrice playing as an inverted full-back and ensuring the Gers maintained their dominance in the engine room.
Another aspect the Hoops couldn't cope with was the Govan side's man-to-man marking.
O'Neill's backline came under constant pressure as they were unable to play out from defence.
The Light Blues suffocated Celtic in the middle of the park and the visitors could barely create any chances.
The dominant victory could be a turning point in Rangers' season as they now have a massive chance to lift immediate silverware under McInnes.
