Djeidi Gassama in 'absolutely unbelievable' moment as Rangers dominate Celtic

Djeidi Gassama gave spectators one of several moments to cheer as Rangers beat Celtic on Sunday.

The Mauritania international started on the left-wing at Ibrox on 13 September and gave Colby Donovan an afternoon to forget.

With the 23-year-old sticking to the touchline and constantly making runs down wide, he was heavily involved for Derek McInnes' team.

Gassama could've done better in the final third at Ibrox, but he showcased his ability to take on defenders on multiple occasions.

The former Sheffield Wednesday forward was frustrating in his decision-making in the opening 45 minutes.

Apart from Dan Neil's goals and Kevin Kelsy's strike in the 3-0 victory, one of the standout moments for fans in Govan was seeing Donovan on the floor.

Gassama has been a key player for Rangers this season, starting his fifth straight domestic game for McInnes.

The winger got the fans off their seats several times in the game, but putting Donovan in a twist certainly takes the cake.

After initially turning away from the Celtic right-back as the ball came in, the forward subsequently cut inside, forcing the defender to the floor.

Peter Lovenkrands clearly loved the moment, but believes the attacker should've done better once he got the better of Donovan.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound on 13 September, the former Gers forward said, "Absolutely unbelievable from Gassama. Puts Donovan on his backside and cuts inside, and he has to just go and keep this pace going.

"Sprint towards Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is coming straight at him. Carter-Vickers is in the box. He can't move. Go straight at him and go to the left or right and take a shot.

"Instead, he takes too many touches. Gets too close to the defender and he ends up in a challenge and goes down to the ground."

McInnes opted to go man-for-man from the get-go, with Rangers stopping Celtic from finding passing lanes from the back.

Sam Johnstone and Callum McGregor made early errors in the defensive third as the Gers put them under constant pressure.

While many might have thought the Light Blues wouldn't be able to control the midfield playing two strikers up top, they managed to do so, with Ryan Naderi dropping deep.

Kelsy should've done better with his opportunity in the first half after Johnstone gifted him the ball but made up for it with an impressive finish to double the Gers' lead.

McInnes seems to have got his tactics spot on and the Govan were up for the challenge in the Old Firm derby.
