Rangers could burn all of their cards to sign Godoy Cruz defender Thomas Galdames this summer, according to En Cancha.

The Chilean outlet reported that Galdames remains "an obsession" for the Gers, but suggested that any possible transfer will have to wait until the conclusion of his Copa America campaign.

It is said that good performances for Chile on the international stage could force the hand of Rangers to bring him to Ibrox as soon as they can this summer.

Rangers push to confirm Thomas Galdames transfer

Rangers were first alerted to Galdames after missing out on Levski Sofia centre-back Jose Cordoba, whom they had heavily courted before letting him move to Norwich City [X].

It proved a significant moment for Philippe Clement, who had previously hoped to bring in Cordoba and goalkeeper Liam Kelly before the end of May after signing Brazilian left-back Jefte [The Scotsman].

Rangers Jose Cordoba
Rangers will hope to avoid losing out on Galdames in a similar fashion to Jose Cordoba's failed transfer.

As a result, the Belgian has cast his eye back to South America towards Galdames, who would likely feature as a centre-back - the slot originally allocated for Cordoba to play.

The Gers did all they could to seal the deal for Cordoba - inviting him to a Premiership match at Ibrox - but after being stung by the Panama international, they will be determined not to fail in their pursuit of Galdames, who has excelled for Godoy Cruz in recent weeks before the Copa America [John Walker].

Should Chile progress far in the Copa America, more and more eyes will be drawn towards Galdames, so Rangers will be keen to try and wrap up the defender's signing as quickly as they possibly can.
