Oskar Fallenius: Djurgarden star can add much-needed trait to Rangers’ side

Oskar Fallenius is putting up some impressive defensive numbers for Djurgarden in 2026, as Rangers reportedly eye up a move for him.

The 24-year-old is out of contract with the Swedish side in December of this year, having joined Djurgarden back in the winter of 2023.

As such, he could be available either on a pre-contract expiry deal that would see him move to Ibrox on a free transfer at the end of his contract, or perhaps for a nominal fee this summer.

Either way, Gers seem to have their eyes on a potential bargain for the winger, who has previously been called for Sweden’s senior international team.

It remains to be seen how highly Fallenius’ signature features on Rangers’ summer transfer to-do list, but if his underlying numbers from his start to the 2026 Allsvenskan season are anything to go by, he should be a priority.

How good are Oskar Fallenius’ defensive stats for Djurgarden?

Fallenius has left the door open to a Rangers move, refusing to rule out a move away from the Stockholm-based outfit at some point in 2026.

When looking over his production during his time with Djurgarden, his numbers don’t immediately jump off the page nor scream that he’s a must-have signing in Govan.

Indeed, he’s scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in 105 total appearances for them, with three scored and four assists from 24 games in all competitions in 2025.

However, when you peel back the curtain and take a look at Fallenius’ hidden stats, we can perhaps see the big reason why Danny Rohl and Rangers want him at Ibrox, and that’s because of his defensive production.

As per FotMob, Fallenius ranks in the top 10 percentile of Allsvenskan right wingers in 2026 for duels won with 53.6 per cent, whilst also placing in the leading 15 percentile for aerial duels won at 66.7 per cent respectively.

He also ranks in the top 8.3 per cent of his positional peers in Sweden’s top-flight for tackles won per 90 with 2.92, as well as being in the top five percentile for possessions won in the final third per game at 1.67.

Fallenius is also recording an average of 5.42 recoveries and 9.17 defensive contributions per 90 in 2026, whilst posting 7.08 touches in the opposition box and a 40 per cent cross success rate to boot.

How do Fallenius’ stats compare with current Rangers stars?

Rangers’ 2025-26 Scottish Premiership season ended with a whimper, as a clear lack of bite and fight was observed among some in the Gers’ ranks.

Fallenius’ numbers suggest he would certainly bring those qualities to Ibrox, which is why Gers chiefs are potentially keen to bring him to Glasgow.

For comparison, Djeidi Gassama averaged just 1.11 tackles, 2.71 defensive contributions, 3.67 recoveries, 0.59 possessions won in the final third and had a 38.9 per cent aerial duels won rate in the league last season.

Meanwhile, Andreas Skov Olsen averaged 1.08 tackles, 2.71 defensive contributions, 4.16 recoveries, 0.54 possessions won in the final third and won 41.7 per cent of his aerial duels for Gers respectively.

Even Mikey Moore could only muster 0.87 tackles, 1.50 defensive contributions, 4.83 recoveries, 0.79 possessions won in the final third and a 34.2 per cent aerial duel win rate in the 2025-26 Scottish Premiership season respectively.

Fallenius’ defensive numbers in 2026 blow his potential Rangers competition out the water, and so for that reason alone, he could be a very wise investment for Gers to make at some point this year.
