Nedim Bajrami: Albanian’s underlying numbers suggest Rangers missed a trick in 2025-26

Nedim Bajrami deserves to take his place on a sizeable list of Rangers‘ 2025-26 regrets, as his hidden numbers show the impact he could’ve had.

The Albanian international was signed by Rangers in the summer of 2024, joining from Italian outfit Sassuolo.

With some mixed form in Italian football with both Sassuolo and Empoli respectively, he was a bit of an unknown quantity when he made the move to Ibrox.

However, a solid debut 2024-25 campaign saw him provide five goals and four assists from 44 total appearances, as well as turning out 11 times in the Europa League.

As such, it was hoped that Bajrami’s Rangers role would continue to grow in 2025-26, but after only appearing in 19 games in all competitions, what actually happened was quite the opposite.

How strong were Nedim Bajrami’s Rangers stats in 2025-26?

Rangers have been urged to sell Bajrami this summer, as he wasn’t fancied by Russell Martin or Danny Rohl this past term.

He is contracted at Ibrox until the summer of 2028, however, meaning there’s still plenty of time for a reclamation project with the versatile midfielder if Rohl desires.

That really should be something the German coach gives a lot of consideration to, as proven by Bajrami’s underlying numbers from this past season.

As per FotMob, he averaged 0.54 expected goals (xG) per game in the Scottish Premiership last term, whilst also recording 3.38 shots per 90 and 0.40 expected assists (xA) per game too.

He created 2.25 chances, played 36.8 successful passes, delivered 1.13 successful crosses and completed 2.81 successful dribbles per game respectively, whilst also averaging 7.87 touches in the opposition box per 90 as well.

Bajrami showed his ability in the physical side of the game too, winning 7.03 duels per 90 at a 55.6 per cent duels won rate, as well as winning 2.25 tackles and making 5.34 recoveries per game respectively.

Despite making just three starts and playing just 320 minutes of Scottish Premiership football last term, he was able to register an average of 75.7 touches per 90, as well as scoring and providing one assist each respectively.

Bajrami would’ve given Rangers missing post-split ingredient

Rangers’ season and title bid collapsed after the split, with Rohl’s side going on a record-setting four-game losing run before winning again when it was too late against Falkirk on the final day.

Throughout the post-split, it was abundantly clear to everyone watching Gers that the team was lacking two key ingredients for success: fight, and energy.

Whilst providing those two traits – that should be non-negotiables – proved a challenge for some, they are Bajrami’s bread and butter.

His industry and application could’ve made a big difference over the final weeks of the season, pushing opposition defensive structures back and offering a spark of energy and creativity in attack.

Regret should be the overriding emotion when Rohl and Rangers look back on how Bajrami was utilised in 2025-26.
