Elliot Watt: Motherwell hand Rangers financial no-brainer with seven-figure price tag
Elliot Watt would be a very shrewd financial investment for Rangers to make, as the Motherwell star has seen his asking price set at seven figures.
The 26-year-old midfielder was strongly linked to Gers in this past season’s winter transfer window, but not move materialised.
Watt only signed for Motherwell last summer on a free transfer, after his contract with English League One side Burton Albion expired.
He proved to be one of the bargains of the 2025-26 Scottish Premiership season too, scoring six goals and registering four assists from 42 total appearances in all competitions at Fir Park.
As such, he could well feature highly on Rangers’ summer transfer wishlist, and he most certainly should be now after it’s been revealed how big of a financial investment it might take to secure his services.

How much is Elliot Watt’s reported asking price?
Danny Rohl is a known admirer of Watt, and with the German coach set to lead Rangers into the summer window and the start of next season, he will be expecting to be backed significantly in the market.
Gers’ engine room is a fascinating and difficult department to evaluate regarding its strength, as there were some real mixed performances from players across this area last term.

Nicolas Raskin‘s future looks uncertain, whilst all of Mohamed Diomande, Connor Barron, Thelo Aasgaard and Tochi Chukwuani respectively, consistently blew hot and cold with inconsistent performances.
Therefore, strengthening in this department may well be on Rangers’ to-do list this summer, and they now appear to have a golden opportunity to do so with Watt at a bargain price.
As per a report from the Scottish Sun, Motherwell have set Watt’s asking price at £3million, with Rangers, Celtic and newly-promoted EFL Championship side Cardiff City all having made enquiries.
Watt is only contracted with Motherwell until the end of May 2027, but they do have the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months, meaning the Well aren’t in a major rush to sell if they don’t get what they want.
What would Watt bring to Rangers?
Ask any Motherwell fan to describe Watt in one word, and you will a hear a different complimentary description every time.
However, perhaps the best word to sum up his qualities and his midfield profile is metronome.
Everything runs through Watt, with the defensive midfielder – who can play six, eight or 10 – always looking to get on the ball, and take it away from the opposition too.
As per FotMob, his 2,347 successful passes were the most of any defensive midfielder in the Scottish Premiership in 2025-26, as were his 255 accurate long balls, 3,301 touches and 243 recoveries respectively.
Watt also won 170 duels, complete 23 successful dribbles, created 39 chances, won 72 tackles and made a total of 187 defensive contributions last season respectively.
In short, he’s the type of central midfielder Rangers, nor few teams, have, and if Raskin were to stay, those two could be an absolute cheat code of an engine room partnership in the Scottish Premiership.
