Danny Rohl right to rage at Andreas Skov Olsen Rangers transfer criticism, everyone wanted him
Danny Rohl wasn’t the only one advocating for Rangers to sign Andreas Skov Olsen in the winter transfer window.
The Gers had been linked with the Denmark international for a few years before they finally got a deal over the line for him in January.
Pundits and fans alike in G51 were excited to see the forward don the Light Blues’ shirt in their push for the William Hill Premiership title.
Skov Olsen is now on his way back to Wolfsburg after an underwhelming time at the Glaswegian outfit and the £8.6million option to buy won’t be triggered.
Rohl is facing criticism from fans at Ibrox, including for effectively replacing Findlay Curtis with the former Club Brugge star, but the move was clearly backed by most supporters when it happened.

Rangers fans have valid reasons for Danny Rohl scrutiny
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 21 May, Charlie Mulgrew said, “First of all, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Skov Olsen comes in and doesn’t hit the ground running. But I think everybody back then, if you had a choice of Skov Olsen and Curtis, Skov Olsen was a big player coming into Rangers. So you would have thought that was probably the better option, as did Rohl.
“Now you look at it and think, why was he let go? Why was Curtis let go? He would have definitely had more of an influence in the squad than Skov Olsen. But anyway, that’s done and dusted. Hindsight is great.”
While questioning Rohl’s decision to swap Curtis for Skov Olsen may be unfair, the 37-year-old head coach has shown signs of immaturity at the Gers.

The German manager’s insistence on playing the Danish winger in some crucial games despite his evident struggles should be called out.
Rohl also left some fans confused with his team selection in the last few games of the season and got tactically outwitted by more experienced head coaches like Martin O’Neill and Derek McInnes.
There are some glaring reasons to call into question the former Sheffield Wednesday boss’ future at Ibrox, but the furore around Curtis and Skov Olsen is arguably unfair.
Danny Rohl can’t repeat one mistake at Ibrox
While Rohl can be excused for backing Skov Olsen over Curtis in January, he can’t repeat the same mistake next season.
The German manager was reluctant to give the Scotland international regular opportunities when he was first appointed at Ibrox.
At Kilmarnock, the 19-year-old has proven he’s ready to become a key player for the Gers in the coming years, and if Rohl can’t see that, fans will surely be on his back.
Curtis is someone the ex-Owls boss should be building his team around for the foreseeable future, but it remains to be seen what’s in store for the young winger after the World Cup.
