Emmanuel Fernandez has flipped his own Rangers transfer script as 49ers could bank ‘fortune’
Emmanuel Fernandez has emerged as one of Rangers‘ biggest assets that the 49ers could cash in on this summer.
The centre back came to Ibrox just under 12 months ago and has gone from strength to strength with performances.
Fernandez has been linked with a move away since the winter window, and it would be no surprise to see teams come back in for his signature soon.
The Nigerian has been a regular for Danny Rohl, forming a fairly consistent partnership with Nasser Djiga in the backline.
However, Fernandez was part of the defence that saw Rangers fall flat in their attempts to win the Scottish Premiership, as he could be a victim of the 49ers’ hefty summer plans.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Emmanuel Fernandez could be worth £30m
There have been suggestions that Fernandez would have to leave Rangers for around £30million this summer, a fee that would smash Gers’ record sale by more than £10m.
After buying him from Peterborough for £3m last summer, it’s said that the League One side have inserted a sell-on clause that would see them bank a nice chunk from the Bears, if they were to sell him.
| Rank | Player | Club joined | Fee |
| 1. | Calvin Bassey | Ajax | £19.6m |
| 2. | Nathan Patterson | Everton | £12m |
| 3. | Hamza Igamane | Lille | £9.8m |
| 4. | Alan Hutton | Tottenham | £9m |
Regardless, Gers would be making one of the biggest, if not, the largest sale in their history, and Keith Jackson previously said Fernandez could be worth a “fortune” only back in April.
Many would have suggested that it would be awful to see the 24-year-old depart so soon, but he may have changed his own transfer script with recent performances.
The 49ers want a “summer of change”, and after seeing some of Fernandez’s recent displays, they could see £30m as too good to turn down for just one player.

It helps that the defender is tied down to Ibrox for another three years, as any buyers would have to pay a premium.
The 49ers have a win-win situation on their hands, because Fernandez may only get better with time, as he most likely needs a rest like all players this summer before coming back to show his quality once more.
Rangers’ whole centre-back picture will be different this summer
John Souttar looks like the only Rangers centre-back who looks nailed on to be at the club this summer.
Speculation surrounding Fernandez will follow, as Derek Cornelius and Djiga look set to return to their parent clubs, following the expiration of their loan stays with the Bears.
Dundee FC’s Luke Graham has been mooted as one of Rangers’ top targets this summer, and is someone the 49ers look to be going for early doors in the window.
Rangers could have a new-look backline at the start of next season, especially if Fernandez leaves, with plenty of outgoings set to occur at Auchenhowie.
