Steven Gerrard ready for Rangers return talks, he’s available right now

Steven Gerrard would have spoken with Rangers over potentially replacing Danny Rohl ahead of next season.

That’s what Darrell Currie has revealed, with the Scottish reporter sharing that the Liverpool icon has made himself available to the Gers.

Gerrard has been linked with a return to Ibrox again after being a candidate last summer and after Russell Martin’s departure.

While Andrew Cavenagh seemingly had an option to have a conversation with the former England international, the American owners have decided to stick with the German boss.

Rohl looks set to stay in the Ibrox dugout, but it seems like the option to get the ex-Liverpool midfielder back to Govan is on the table.

Steven Gerrard the perfect fit for Rangers

Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club on 18 May, Currie said, “Cavenagh had a massive decision to make. You’ve got guys like Gerrard out there. He’s the guy they wanted for the job the first time. It’s my understanding that he would’ve talked to Rangers again. He’s available now. They could’ve gone to get him. They’ve stuck with Rohl. That’s a monumental decision, isn’t it?”

Gerrard won number 55 at the Gers and will forever be remembered for it despite his unceremonious exit in 2021 to Aston Villa.

The William Hill Premiership title race this season highlighted the importance of experience in the dugout, with Martin O’Neill leading Celtic to major silverware.

After the split, Rohl didn’t seem to have any answers for the obstacles he faced, while the Hoops boss got five wins on the bounce.

The Englishman ended a 10-year league title drought at the Light Blues and he may be the one who can bring success back to Ibrox.

Danny Rohl on thin ice at Ibrox

Rangers lost four games on the bounce post-split, rightfully putting pressure on Rohl’s job at Ibrox.

The German manager’s decision-making and tactical approach in recent matches have come under scrutiny, with a large section of the fanbase calling for his dismissal.

James Tavernier’s situation in Govan was also handled poorly by the ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss, leaving a bitter taste in supporters’ mouths.

Rohl doesn’t have much room for error left at the Glaswegian outfit and a small slip-up could potentially lead to the end of his tenure in G51.
