Rangers humiliation on full display as Andreas Skov Olsen nightmare set to end
Rangers made a fool of themselves by signing Andreas Skov Olsen on loan from VfL Wolfsburg in the winter transfer window.
In hindsight, the Gers’ hierarchy will surely admit it would have been better to keep Findlay Curtis at Ibrox instead of effectively replacing him with the Denmark international.
The Scottish youngster was sent out on loan to Kilmarnock, where he thrived under Neil McCann, while Skov Olsen’s struggles have continued at the Light Blues.
In the 5-2 win over Falkirk on 16 May, the former Club Brugge star was an unused substitute in what may have been his final chance to play for the Glaswegian outfit.
Skov Olsen’s loan deal at Ibrox includes an £8.6million option to buy him in the summer, but it certainly wouldn’t make sense for the Govan side to pay that much for the winger.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Andreas Skov Olsen season in numbers at Rangers
Skov Olsen made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Gers after signing midway through the season, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
The Danish forward’s arrival was meant to push the Light Blues to the William Hill Premiership title, but instead, it can be argued that it had the opposite effect.
Skov Olsen made nine league appearances for the Glaswegian outfit, creating four big chances and missing one big opportunity to score, as per Sofascore.
| Statistics | Skov Olsen |
| Appearances | 9 |
| Starts | 7 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 3 |
| Big chances missed | 1 |
| Big chances created | 4 |
| Successful dribbles per game | 0.7 (67%) |
| Possession lost per game | 7.6 |
| Total duels won per game | 2.9 (58%) |
It was the Wolfsburg loanee’s reluctance to take on opposition defenders that frustrated fans of the Govan side the most, with just 0.7 dribbles per game.
The winger also lost the ball on multiple occasions, 7.6 times on average per game, and Danny Rohl’s faith in him was confusing for most supporters.
Danny Rohl baffles with Andreas Skov Olsen decision
Rohl started Skov Olsen in what was a must-win game against Hearts at Tynecastle Park, the only post-split fixture he featured in.
The Denmark international hasn’t lived up to the billing at Ibrox, yet the German manager seemed to believe in his qualities despite not witnessing them regularly at Rangers.

In January, Skov Olsen was expected to be a game-changing addition to the Glaswegian outfit’s squad, but it has turned into a nightmare for both the player and the club.
Looking back at the agreement with Wolfsburg, it’s humiliating to think that the Govan side believed £8.6m was a fair deal for a player who has had a year to forget in Germany.
