Barry Ferguson was right all along about Rangers ‘fear’, it’s even worse under Danny Rohl

Barry Ferguson was not lying when he suggested the fear factor Rangers once had is gone, as the club’s reputation continues to be tarnished under Danny Rohl.

The Gers have been on a downward slope since Steven Gerrard left, with this campaign under Russell Martin and Rohl proving to be a bit of a disaster.

Unwanted history has been broken for Gers in multiple areas, with the Light Blue’s on a three-game losing streak in the league for the first time since 2000.

The downfall started at Ibrox when Motherwell shocked Rohl’s side to grab a 3-2 win, and at that moment, it seemed like the German head coach had thrown the Bears’ title hopes away.

Rangers’ trajectory is plummeting, and whether that’s on Rohl or not is up for debate, but things certainly are not getting better under the former Sheffield Wednesday boss.

Barry Ferguson saw the bleak future at Rangers

Rangers’ 3-1 loss to Celtic in the Old Firm derby on Sunday further highlighted that the Bears just don’t seem to be the same club they once were.

Even with the losses to Motherwell and Hearts, a win over the Hoops may not have been enough for the league title, but it meant lots for a top-two finish and bragging rights.

Rangers could have all of the ball in any game, win as many duels as they like, but there seems to be a mentality shift not just in Celtic, but also in other teams in the league about the Bears.

At the end of last season, former interim boss Ferguson spoke the complete truth when talking about the lack of fear that teams now have when facing the Light Blues.

Ferguson said: “The issue you have got is, people don’t fear playing Rangers now. Whether that’s home or away, they enjoy coming to Ibrox, and then away from home, teams look like they can bully you.

“Things need to change moving forward, I’m sure whoever takes the job totally understands that.”

The rest of the ex-Gers’ boss comments are in the video below.

Martin had no idea what it meant to be Gers boss, while Rohl hasn’t shown any signs that he aligns with the club’s ethos either.

Will 49ers conduct end-of-season review before sack decision?

There have been strong calls for Rohl to be sacked immediately after the loss to Celtic, as there is now arguably too much scar tissue for both parties to reconcile.

But there is just two games left in the season, so the 49ers may give Rohl some extra time before making a decision.

While it’s true that the board should not act impulsively, people’s suggestions about Rohl’s immediate sack have been spot on.

At the same time, it could be best for Andrew Cavenagh and Co. to have a lengthy sit-down with the young German head coach, reviewing the season as a whole, before coming to a conclusion.
