Danny Rohl completely tone-deaf over pride comments as calamitous Rangers season nears end

Danny Rohl has claimed that his Rangers side have ended the season as strongly as they could’ve.

Tensions are rising at Ibrox, as Rangers have all but blown their chances of winning the Scottish Premiership this season.

Back-to-back defeats to Motherwell and Hearts respectively sees Gers now trailing the Jambos by seven points, with only three more games to play.

As such, many supporters are furious with how their campaign has ended, with dreams of seeing their team crowned champions of Scotland for the first time since 2021 now extinguished.

Indeed, calls are growing louder for Rangers to sack Rohl, and a defeat in the Old Firm derby on Sunday would turn the situation incredibly toxic.

What has Danny Rohl said about Rangers’ finish to the season?

Rohl has been linked with the Wolfsburg job in recent days, which would offer the chance for the 37-year-old to fulfil his confessed ambition of managing in his homeland of Germany.

With how his Gers side have allowed their season to peter out over these last couple of games, there’s a fair number of supporters who wouldn’t lose sleep if he was to leave this summer.

He won’t have done much to change those supporters’ minds with what he’s said on how Rangers’ end to the season has gone either.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday via Rangers’ X account, Rohl believes that his team couldn’t have done any more to end their campaign in better fashion.

“For me, whether to have Scottish players or not, the key is to have the right players to deliver consistently and to deliver the 90 minutes for a good result, Rohl said.

“These five games, it’s the small details, having players such as Ryan Naderi and Tuur Rommens not being available, but also Mikey Moore and Dujon Sterling, it’s difficult, and it’s those small details.

“Making our supporters proud, and we have finished the season the best we can.”

Rohl is right Rangers man, but this assessment is ridiculous

If there’s one emotion that most Rangers fans aren’t feeling about their team right now, it’s pride.

They’ve thrown away their best chance of winning the title since 2021, and Rohl has made some decisions regarding his team selections in recent weeks that he’s sure to want back.

However, he’s a young coach still learning his trade, and thus he should be allowed to make mistakes and learn, and there’s no doubting he’s got more out of this group of players than Russell Martin did, respectfully.

Yes Rangers’ end to the season has been disappointing, but he’s improved so many players this term, enjoyed a good first transfer window as boss in the winter, and it was only at Falkirk three games ago the travelling support sang his name on repeat.

He can be the man to bring success back to Ibrox, but to say his team have finished the campaign as best they could whilst talking about making the fans proud in the same breath? That’s fairly ludicrous.
