Andreas Skov Olsen: Danny Rohl has Rangers recall dilemma after last Hearts performance

Andreas Skov Olsen was excellent in Rangers‘ previous 4-2 win against Hearts, setting up a tough decision for Danny Rohl to make on Monday night.

The 26-year-old signed for Rangers on loan in the January transfer window, and much fanfare was made over his move to Ibrox.

Indeed, Skov Olsen has impressive pedigree on his CV, with clubs such as Wolfsburg, Club Brugge and Bologna respectively all having sampled his services during his career so far.

A 40-cap Denmark international, many hoped that he would hit the ground running for Gers, but that hasn’t quite been the case.

Because of that, with only four games remaining in the Scottish Premiership season, the likelihood of him securing a permanent transfer to Rangers looks unlikely right now.

How did Andreas Skov Olsen perform for Rangers vs Hearts?

Skov Olsen has been an unused substitute on the Rangers bench over the last two games against Motherwell and Falkirk respectively, evidently having fallen out of favour with Rohl.

For him to not even come on against Motherwell last time out when Gers were chasing the game at 2-0 down at half-time, well that perhaps tells you all there is to know about where he’s at for trust value at the moment.

However, Skov Olsen has been tipped to start against Hearts when Gers travel to Tynecastle on Monday night, with Rohl perhaps looking to make a number of changes following the defeat to Motherwell.

That would certainly be a risk given his lack of sharpness and largely frustrating displays in recent weeks, but the Dane did put in one of his best performances in a Rangers shirt against Hearts in the previous meeting.

He grabbed the assist for Gers’ third goal in the 4-2 win on 15 February, and as per FotMob, he completed 83 per cent of his passes and also created three chances.

Skov Olsen had one shot on goal blocked, made four recoveries, won 50 per cent of his ground duels and won two fouls in the 80 minutes he was on the pitch at Ibrox that day.

Skov Olsen could cause Stephen Kingsley lots of problems

With Hearts’ star left-back Harry Milne an injury doubt for Monday’s game against Rangers, Derek McInnes may be forced to once again deploy Stephen Kingsley in that position.

The 31-year-old is a natural in that spot, but has only played 17 times in the Scottish Premiership this season, and may struggle to keep up with Skov Olsen’s energy and trickery down that flank if the Gers winger was to start.

As per FotMob, Kingsley has only won 3.66 duels per game in the Scottish Premiership this season, whilst winning only 1.41 tackles per 90 as well as being dribbled past seven times.

So, with Skov Olsen’s dribbling ability, that could be a great matchup as far as Rangers are concerned, and even if Milne does start over Kingsley, it’s unlikely he’s going to be 100 per cent fit, and so the Dane could also make it a long afternoon for him as well.
