Oliver Antman to feel deflated once again after latest scenes in Rangers vs Dundee United

Oliver Antman will be furious that he wasn’t subbed on in Rangers‘ 4-2 win over Dundee United on Saturday afternoon.

Antman joined Rangers from Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles in July for a fee that could rise to £5million, and he has only scored once for the Bears.

Despite having an incredible last season in the Netherlands, the Finnish international has only started six Scottish Premiership matches, and he is clearly low on confidence under Danny Rohl.

The right-winger has faced an abundance of scrutiny for his lack of fitness, as he has only registered five goal involvements in all competitions, which certainly isn’t good enough.

After impressing in Rangers’ win over Aberdeen before the international break, Antman would have been hoping to make an impact against Dundee United, but that unfortunately wasn’t the case.

Oliver Antman unfairly snubbed vs Dundee United

When Rangers faced the Dons, the 24-year-old came on for Thelo Aasgaard in the 72nd minute and was a bright spark as he created two chances at Ibrox.

Antman was impressive against Aberdeen, and his cameo off the bench may have led him to believe that he warranted more minutes in the team.

However, he wasn’t called on by Rohl on Saturday, who made all five substitutions without considering him.

According to Sofascore, he has created 3.01 chances per 90 minutes in the Scottish Premiership, which is more than any other player in the division.

Of course, the Finnish winger faces a lot of competition, but with three goal contributions in 569 minutes of league football, there’s no reason why he can’t force his way into the starting lineup.

It will definitely be a blow to his confidence, and with just six games left to play this season, it’ll be hard to see him get many more significant minutes under Rohl.

Oliver Antman Rangers contract expiry

While Rangers are still winning in his absence, it still feels unfair on the winger, and he may assess his future in G51 over the summer.

Why Oliver Antman has the ability to start for Rangers

For the early months of the season, Djeidi Gassama locked down the left wing spot with his impressive performances, which left Antman and Moore to fight it out on the opposite flank.

Now it’s Andreas Skov Olsen who starts on the right, and it’s not as if he has set the world alight with his start to life at Rangers.

The former Go Ahead Eagles man has dropped down in the pecking order, but he clearly has the ability.

Last season, he registered 21 goal contributions in the Eredivisie and helped his side win the Dutch Cup, their first trophy in 92 years.

Andreas Skov Olsen stats vs Dundee United

While he hasn’t hit those heights in Govan, there is clearly a player in there that is waiting to be unlocked.

With 1.74 successful dribbles and 6.33 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes, he clearly has a lot of potential to excel, and Rohl may notice that as the season reaches its climax.

There is certainly still a spot to be won out wide.
