Official Jens Hjerto-Dahl announcement made amid intense Rangers speculation for summer signing

Rangers have repeatedly been linked with a move for Jens Hjerto-Dahl.

Before the winter window opened in January, Rangers were credited with interest in signing Hjerto-Dahl from Tromso, but a move never came to fruition.

After Rangers recruited Sturm Graz star Tochi Chukwuani, the Ibrox outfit had no great need to strengthen in the centre of the park.

Reports had suggested that the 20-year-old was primed to move to Danny Rohl’s side this summer, but Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack downplayed talk of a Hjerto-Dahl switch.

Now, suitors of the Norway Under-21 international Hjerto-Dahl have learned of news that could greatly change the course of his future.

Jens Hjerto-Dahl commits long-term future to Tromso

Days after reports emerged that the 20-year-old was merely on Rangers‘ radar, rather than being certain to join them ahead of next season, the youngster has extended his stay at the Norwegian team.

As confirmed by Tromso’s official website, Hjerto-Dahl has signed a new four-year contract with the Eliteserien club until the summer of 2029.

The club states he has long been one of their “greatest talents” after working his way through the Norwegian team’s academy. And Hjerto-Dahl himself added he is “very proud” to represent Tromso and continue playing in front of the fans.

He told the club’s website, “I have great faith in the work we do here at TIL. Very proud to represent the city and the club in my heart, and I look forward to creating new moments at the stadium again with you.”

Despite being in the early years of his career, Hjerto-Dahl has played more than 85 times for Tromso, scoring 12 goals along the way. He was also been voted the league’s young player of the month twice in 2025.

Tromso’s sporting director, Lars Petter Andressen, also expressed his delight at Hjerto-Dahl extending his stay at Romssa Arena.

He added, “We are very happy and proud that Jens has signed a new 4-year contract. With this, he says how happy he is at the club and how much faith he has in everything that will happen in the future.”

This may be a ploy to get more money for Hjerto-Dahl in the summer, a common trick by clubs that have an in-demand player. However, he may indeed be very happy at Tromso, where he is an important player who features regularly.

Will Rangers’ winter window dealings be enough to deliver silverware?

The Gers were linked with a whole host of players over the winter transfer window but ended up with four new recruits when the deadline passed on 2 February.

Ryan Naderi was Rangers’ last signing of the window, with the striker hoping to improve an attack that has been quite goal-shy at times this season.

Fellow winter recruit Andreas Skov Olsen bagged his first Rangers goal in their 5-1 thumping of Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.

That result took them to within three points of leaders Hearts, with Celtic three points back from the Gers after their game at Aberdeen was postponed due to adverse weather.

Chukwuani has had an impressive start with the Scottish giants so far and Tuur Rommens could prove to be a handy signing, too. Whether or not their four recruits catapult them to their first league title since 2021 remains to be seen.

Before then, Rangers host Queen’s Park in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
