Nathan Patterson ready for Rangers return as loan finances agreeable with Everton

Nathan Patterson could give the green light to make a Rangers return from Everton.

Patterson left Rangers for Everton back in 2022 in a deal worth £16million, back when the Toffees were managed by Rafa Benitez.

The fee was large at the time, and Ally McCoist was blown away by Patterson’s price tag when the deal was confirmed by the Premier League side.

Things haven’t quite worked out for the right-back on Merseyside, with plenty of Rangers return links emerging for Patterson over the years.

Patterson now looks destined to part ways with David Moyes’ side, with a move to Ibrox potentially in the pipeline this winter.

Nathan Patterson could return to Rangers on loan

Patterson is one of Rangers’ most valuable academy graduates of all time, but has struggled for the most part since leaving Govan.

The 24-year-old has never made more than 26 appearances in a season for the Toffees, summing up his problems with injury and regular minutes.

That theme has continued this campaign, with Moyes affording the defender just 77 minutes of Premier League action to this point.

Former Everton scout Bryan King has suggested that Patterson could look to benefit his own career and agree a loan move back to Rangers atfer a positive spell under Danny Rohl.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, King said: “They’re climbing up the table, but things seem to have calmed down.

He’s the kind of player who could help them because he’s not getting a game at Everton and could be a solution to put him out on loan.

Anything would be beneficial for him right now because, as a footballer, he will just want to play football.

I don’t think Rangers are in a position to buy him, but they can certainly afford a loan fee.

He knows the football club, and if he has the chance, he would go back there, I’m sure he would.

Danny Rohl could unleash Patterson’s best away from Everton

Moyes has been forced to utilise Patterson in recent weeks as injury problems continue to impact his squad over the busy winter period.

The Scot hasn’t let himself down in clashes against Nottingham Forest and Sunderland, with his showing against the latter being largely positive.

Despite playing 116 minutes, the right-back still clocked up positive numbers defensively and in attacking areas, something that could develop further in the Scottish Premiership.

Rohl has already got the Gers ticking and looking upwards, so adding a hometown hero like Patterson could prove to be great for all parties.

The 24-year-old is in desperate need of regular football, and that is something that could be offered to help find his best form across the second half of the season.
