Sturm Graz take drastic Tochi Chukwuani action as Rangers transfer now on the brink

Tochi Chukwuani is closing in on a move to Rangers from Austrian side Sturm Graz.

Rangers have been heavily linked with Chukwuani in recent days, but a deal now looks to be all but done.

Danny Rohl has stated his wish to improve the squad at his disposal, with the German head coach now getting what he’s asked of Andrew Cavenagh.

Rangers are in a healthy position in the Scottish Premiership, and with the title suddenly in sight, the signing of Chukwuani could be crucial.

However, the Danish midfielder’s impending move to Ibrox didn’t come without its drama, as Chris Jack detailed all.

Sturm Graz didn’t play Tochi Chukwuani in a friendly

Rangers are also said to be closing in on a deal to sign Tuur Rommens from Belgian side Westerlo, as he and Chukwuani could be announced at the same time.

The Bears spent big in the summer, but despite this, Cavenagh and Co. look to be dipping their hands in their pockets once more.

The Rangers Review‘s Jack explained this Thursday that Sturm Graz decided against playing Chukwuani in a recent match ahead of his move to Glasgow.

Jack wrote: “Chukwuani was left out of the Sturm Graz squad for their friendly fixture with Club Brugge on Thursday afternoon.

“And he is now on the brink of putting pen-to-paper ahead of the Premiership fixture with Aberdeen. It is understood a £4million deal is now in place.”

Outgoings are expected to balance the books this month, but the transfer of Chukwuani will have fans asking all the questions.

Chukwuani’s in-depth stats for Sturm Graz; is he worth £4m?

Chukwuani will come in and rival Connor Barron and Nicolas Raskin for a starting spot.

He also gives Rohl the option to use a flat three midfield, but given the Gers boss’s preference to play a double midfield pivot, Chukwuani will have to fight for his place.

£4m is a lot for the Bears to be spending on a fairly unknown European talent, but his statistics should convince.

As highlighted by Sofascore, Chukwuani is a ball-winning midfielder and makes 2.3 tackles per game.

He will offer Rohl and an extra piece of cover in front of his backline, and will surely ease straight into things at Ibrox.
