Tochi Chukwuani looks set to become Rangers' first signing of the January transfer window.

The number six position has been a major concern for Danny Rohl, and the Gers have acted quickly to bolster the position.

Rangers have been linked with Tromso's Jens Hjerto-Dahl and Saint-Etienne's Pierre Ekwah, but it seems like Chukwuani is the man for the job.

A report from the Daily Record on 8 January claims that the Light Blues have agreed a deal with Sturm Graz for the midfielder.

How much will Tochi Chukwuani cost Rangers?

Chukwuani should be a hit amongst the Rangers fans, after footage of his red card for a crunching tackle on Celtic's Callum McGregor in October resurfaced.

The report states that he is just waiting for permission to fly to Scotland, with the Austrian champions on the verge of accepting the deal.

Dan Purdy, the Gers' technical director, has reportedly negotiated a deal that will cost £4million with the potential for further add-ons in the future.

Why Chukwuami would be a perfect fit for Rohl

Rohl's side are desperate for another option at the base of midfield, and the 22-year-old would be a perfect fit in Govan.

He is a combative midfielder, who is comfortable in possession, and that is exactly what the Ibrox outfit are looking for.

  • Chukwuani has 156 appearances in senior football for Sturm Graz, Lyngby and FC Nordsjaelland
  • He has 10 goals and six assists in those matches
  • The young midfielder has Champions League and Europa League experience

He averages 2.3 tackles and 5.9 duels won per game, per Sofascore, showcasing what he would bring to the Bears' engine room.

He has also recorded a 90 per cent pass completion in his own half, which shows that he can keep it ticking over when the Gers are trying to build attacks from the back.

The move makes perfect sense, and if the Gers can keep picking up diamonds from foreign leagues, it could be a very profitable strategy, both in terms of finances and success on the pitch.

The Govan outfit have acted decisively to secure a key target, one that should help them in their fight to chase Hearts down and win the Scottish Premiership.
