Kris Boyd could get Rangers wish at last as exciting striker tempted by Ibrox transfer
Kris Boyd could belatedly get one of his Rangers transfer wishes from the summer amid a new transfer claim regarding Hibernian striker Kieron Bowie.
Boyd raised the prospect of Bowie joining Rangers late in the summer transfer window after Hamza Igamane’s exit was sealed.
The move did not come to fruition, with Bowie staying at Easter Road and starring for Hibs this season with seven goals and three assists in 20 Scottish Premiership outings.
Rangers have been urged to move for Bowie this month, with Danny Rohl’s side still very much in the race for the title.
Kieron Bowie could be swayed by Rangers interest
Bowie still has two-and-a-half years to run on his Hibs contract and will therefore not come cheap, relatively speaking, should he move this month.
In the view of The Scottish Sun journalist David Friel, speaking on Go Ballistic, Bowie would be tempted by a move to Rangers should the Gers follow through with their interest.
“I can see him being tempted. He’s a guy who seems destined for bigger things,” Friel said. “He started the season so well, but it’s fair to say he drifted off a bit.
“He’s back scoring again and has all the attributes. I personally think he could do with more time at Hibs. I think he could do with staying there.
“Is he a player Rangers would be looking at? He’s Scottish, he’s very talented, affordable to an extent… I don’t see it happening this window, but there are players out there Rangers could pick up in Scotland.“
Bowie scored five goals in 13 appearances in his first season with Hibs, whom he joined from Northampton Town.
Why Bowie transfer would also massively please Barry Ferguson
Boyd is not alone in wanting Rangers to sign more Scottish players, or indeed players in general from fellow Scottish sides.
Barry Ferguson recently hit out at Rangers over their failure to bring through – or sign – more Scottish talents.
| Kieran Bowie | Games | Goals | Assists |
| Scottish Premiership | 20 | 7 | 3 |
| Europa League (inc qualifiers) | 6 | 1 | 0 |
| Premier Sports Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Bowie certainly seems to tick plenty of boxes and many would see him as someone ready to slot straight into the side.
Youssef Chermiti scored twice in the win over Celtic, but on the whole he has underperformed considering the sum splashed out to sign him.
Bowie may be one to come back to in the summer, but Rangers really could do with some additional firepower this month – whether that be from home shores or abroad.
