Nedim Bajrami and Danilo headline transfer list as Rangers ready to clear house
Nedim Bajrami and Danilo are among a host of Rangers players who are on the transfer list in the January transfer window.
Danny Rohl has steadied the ship at Ibrox and after Rangers beat St Mirren on Tuesday they are now just three points behind Celtic ahead of Saturday’s Old Firm derby, and six behind leaders Hearts.
But the squad is still a mess after a disastrous summer transfer window under Russell Martin added to multiple seasons of signings made for managers who didn’t last long in the job.
Now, with Rohl entering his first transfer window Rangers are looking to clear the decks by actively moving five players towards the exits.
Nedim Bajrami and Danilo set to leave Rangers
The Daily Record have reported that Bajrami and Danilo headline a list of five that Rangers have “openly made available” to leave now the window is open.
As well as the senior pair, who each arrived in Glasgow for significant money, the not-entirely-unexpected trio of Kieran Dowell, Clinton Nsiala, and Rabbi Matondo can also go permanently.
Clubs are said to have been “alerted” to their status, while Lyall Cameron, who only arrived at Ibrox in the summer from Dundee, can leave on loan already.
Bajrami came in on deadline day at the start of last season under Philippe Clement, but has fallen out of favour and has only featured 14 times in all competitions so far this term.
Danilo was the most expensive, at up to £6million, of the Gers’ last nightmare spending spree under Michael Beale, as they attempted to restock their attack post-Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, when he arrived with Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers three summers ago.
| Reported Fee | Arrival Date | Games | |
| Nedim Bajrami | £3.4m | August 2024 | 58 |
| Danilo | £6m | July 2023 | 72 |
| Kieran Dowell | Free | July 2023 | 38 |
| Rabbi Matondo | £1.8m | July 2022 | 67 |
| Clinton Nsiala | Free | July 2024 | 16 |
While he has lasted the longest of the three his time was wrecked by injury and after scoring just 15 times he is now behind Bojan Miovski and, somehow, Youssef Chermiti.
Dowell arrived on a free transfer the same summer but has never really seemed to fit, and after half a campaign on loan at Birmingham last term it is little surprise that he is surplus to requirements, while Matondo was at Hanover for the same period and hasn’t featured for Rangers at all this term, with both affected by injuries once again.
Nsiala arrived from AC Milan under Clement and belatedly broke into the first team this time last year, but after his run of starts continued into Barry Ferguson’s interim reign, the youngster has largely vanished without a trace this term.

Rangers forever drowning under deadwood
On the surface it’s surely the right policy to shift unwanted players out when Rohl needs as much space and financial leeway to fix the circus at Ibrox.
Somehow, thanks to chaos at Celtic and inconsistency at Hearts, there is still a league title up for grabs for Rangers if the German can come out of the winter window with a functioning unit.
The problem, as ever in recent years, is it is far easier said than done to flog all the mistakes from the previous few cycles of hiring, backing, and firing.
It’s no coincidence that most of the exit-bound names have been injury-prone and out of the side for long stretches, and none will live especially long in the collective memory at Ibrox, arguably outside of Matondo and his dramatic Old Firm leveller two seasons ago.
And this forever seems to be the case, with the likes of Lammers, Ben Davies, and Robin Propper all signed with high hopes and then hastily dispensed with in the past few seasons.
The current set of transfer listed names would have been available previously as well, so how little the club are willing to accept to take them off their hands will be key to successfully doing deals.
