‘Odds are against Hearts for Scottish Premiership title with what Rangers can do in January’

Rangers are preparing for their biggest game of the season on Sunday afternoon, as they take on Hearts.

Rangers face Hearts at Tynecastle on 21 December, looking to keep their unlikely Scottish Premiership title push alive in Edinburgh.

Danny Rohl remains unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership, but Derek McInnes has the Jambos flying once again after another recent win over Celtic.

With Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers ready to spend again in January, it is up to Rohl and his Bears squad to stay in touching distance of Hearts before then.

Rangers to go big in January transfer window

Rangers go to Edinburgh off the back of recent wins over Kilmarnock and Hibernian, although neither were convincing.

Gary Keown has singled out the main problem at Ibrox, with not enough firepower in the final third compared to the likes of Hearts in the title race.

Writing in the print edition of the Scottish Mail on Sunday, the journalist insists that with Rangers’ likely spending power in January, though, the odds are still in their favour.

“Claudio Braga has become a cult hero,” Keown wrote. “Alexandros Kyziridis can change games, Lawrence Shankland is a proven scorer.

“Who do Celtic or Rangers have at the front end of the pitch to get their punters out of their seats? Sure, the big two have more money to spend in January.

“The odds are still against Hearts in the race for the crown.”

What could happen in January at Ibrox?

After the disastrous summer transfer window, outgoings are expected first.

Joe Rothwell looks set to return to England already, with Sheffield United and Derby making their interest clear ahead of the window.

Kieran Dowell could join him, with Youssef Chermiti linked with the exit door too.

Lee McCulloch’s possible return to Ibrox could help speed up the process of new signings, with Stig Inge Bjornebye also hired as a consultant.

Jens Hjerto-Dahl has already been mentioned as a target in midfield, with more also needed in the final third for Rohl to be successful.

For now, though, Rangers need to concentrate on maximum points in the Scottish Premiership, starting at Hearts on Sunday.
