Kevin Thelwell hire surely set for Rangers axe after Lee McCulloch update at Ibrox
Kevin Thelwell will go down as one of the worst sporting directors in Rangers history.
The former Everton chief was appointed by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises to oversee the start of a new era in Govan after the US consortium’s takeover.
Thelwell didn’t last long at Ibrox and was sacked alongside Patrick Stewart, and neither of them can have any complaints.
While Cavenagh sacked Russell Martin to calm fans’ anger, the former sporting director and CEO’s continuity was still a point for contention for many, but it looks like the Glaswegian outfit’s chairman is looking to clear all traces of the previous failures in G51.

Lee McCulloch to replace Robbie Thelwell at Rangers
Robbie Thelwell surprisingly remained at the Gers despite his dad leaving towards the end of November.
Kevin appointed his son as the head of recruitment at Ibrox before getting sacked, but the 26-year-old may also be on his way out now.
Cavenagh is now looking to bring Lee McCulloch as the new head of recruitment, according to the Heart & Hand Podcast.
David Edgar believes that the Brighton chief’s appointment at the Light Blues would be a no-brainer, with the Scotsman spending eight years of his playing career in G51.
If McCulloch does arrive at the Glaswegian outfit, it will be interesting to see where that would leave Robbie, with an exit certainly on the cards.
Andrew Cavenagh must be surgical with Ibrox upheaval
Cavenagh gave Kevin free rein to hire people at Ibrox, with key off-field appointments like Dan Purdy, Nathan Fisher and Jonathan Hunter-Barrett, who had previously worked with the former sporting director at other clubs.
If the American owners now want a fresh start midway through the season, they have to figure out who they want to keep going forward.

With the sporting director and CEO positions vacant at the Light Blues, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a bit of upheaval in the boardroom in the coming months.
Cavenagh and the 49ers must ensure that potential changes in Govan don’t affect the Glaswegian outfit’s performances on the pitch.
