Kilmarnock vs Rangers preview: Team news, lineups, prediction

Rangers will look to return to winning ways on Saturday when they travel to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.

A 2-2 draw against Dundee United on Wednesday condemned the Gers to two successive draws in the division.

Danny Rohl will still be aiming to return Rangers at least to the Champions League places after their dire start under Russell Martin.

However, this looks to be a tricky task, with the Glaswegians nine points behind Hearts and Celtic, who reside in the top two.

Nevertheless, Rohl has a great chance to pick up three points on Saturday as they take on a struggling Kilmarnock side.

Preview

Rangers are no doubt in poor form coming into the match.

The Gers are without a win in their last three games in all competitions, with Nedim Bajrami forced to rescue a point for the Gers against Dundee United in the dying seconds.

In comparison, Kilmarnock are in even worse shape.

Killie are without a win in their last eight matches, although they did manage to pick up a surprise point against Hearts in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.

As it stands, Kilmarnock are ninth in the table, 11 points off Rangers in fourth.

Head-to-head

Rangers have a solid record against Kilmarnock and have won seven of their last eight meetings.

In their only other encounter this season, Rangers beat Killie 3-1 at Ibrox in what was Rohl’s first domestic game in charge of the Glaswegians.

However, a defeat against Saturday’s opponents has come recently, with Kilmarnock beating the Gers 1-0 back in October 2024.

Therefore, Rohl will be looking to avoid a repeat of this in his first visit to The BBSP Stadium Rugby Park.

Team news and lineups

Rangers have plenty of problems going into the game on the injury front.

While Mikey Moore is now back in the squad, Dujon Sterling is confirmed as out.

On top of this, defenders John Souttar and Derek Cornelius remain sidelined alongside Oliver Antman, Bailey Rice, Kieran Dowell and Bailey Rice.

For Kilmarnock, Max Stryjek is out of the clash as well as Jamie Brandon, Kyle Magennis and Matt Kennedy.

Rangers predicted XI: Butland, Tavernier, Djiga, Fernandez, Meghoma, Raskin, Barron, Gassama, Bajrami, Danilo, Chermiti

Prediction: Kilmarnock 1-2 Rangers

With Rangers, it is hard to know which side of them will turn up.

Against Falkirk last weekend, while they were defensively solid, they were unable to break the opponents down at Ibrox.

Yet, on Wednesday, it was the complete opposite, with Rangers creating chances with ease, only to look vulnerable defensively.

However, with Kilmarnock equally struggling, Rangers should pick up a win. However, the hosts will still likely find a way through Rohl’s shaky backline.

Therefore, Rangers to win 2-1 seems the most likely outcome.
