Rangers star ‘potentially up for award’ after magnificent scenes vs Dundee United

Jayden Meghoma has been hailed for his goal in Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Dundee United on Wednesday.

With the Gers 1-0 down, the full-back stepped up to get an important quick equaliser at the CalForth Construction Arena.

It had been an awful start for Danny Rohl’s side, but a beautiful 30-yard hit put the visitors back in the game.

While Rangers weren’t able to win the match, it was a positive sign from the Brentford loanee, who has had a tough start to the season.

Adam Binnie: Jayden Meghoma’s strike could be the goal of the season

Meghoma has been continuously criticised since joining Rangers in the summer.

The full-back has struggled along with many of the Gers’ recent signings.

With Rangers also eyeing a new full-back questions have been asked about where Meghoma’s future lies and if the Gers will cut his loan short in January.

However, the Brentford loanee quickly silenced his critics with his fabulous goal against Dundee United.

After the hosts failed to clear their lines, the ball fell to Meghoma who smashed it low and hard into the top corner from 30 yards out.

Watching the match on Sky Sports News on 3 December, Adam Binnie believes the strike could win the goal of the season award.

He said: “What a goal that is! Meghoma with potentially a goal of the season as far as Rangers are concerned. He absolutely rifled that into the top corner!”

What did Danny Rohl say about the draw?

For Rohl, it is another disappointing result, with Ranger also drawing 0-0 with Falkirk on the weekend.

Despite his positive start, the manager is now finding it difficult to deliver victories, with the last two matches being highly winnable games.

While the Gers did create plenty against Dundee United, it simply wasn’t enough, and in the end, they were lucky to snatch a point.

Speaking to BBC Scotland on 3 December, Rohl explained that there were positives in the performance.

He said: “We are disappointed with just one point. I see how many chances we create, we should win this game. We had more tempo, better body shape between the lines.

“The weekend [at home to Falkirk] was a boring draw, today was an entertaining draw, but for both you get just one point.

“If we can bring the performance against the ball in the Falkirk game and the performance today with the ball in one game, then the opportunity is big to win the next game.”
