Michael Stewart claims Rangers star is getting bad reputation with referees after incident vs Dundee United – ‘100%’
Michael Stewart has claimed that Djeidi Gassama is starting to get a reputation for diving after another incident in Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Dundee United.
Few players performed well in Rangers’ draw against Dundee United, and if it wasn’t for a late penalty, the Gers would have lost again.
However, before the last-gasp spot kick, the Gers had another penalty claim turned down just before the 70thminute.
Gassama went down inside the box but was booked for diving, with Stewart now believing that this is something the winger has developed a reputation for.

Michael Stewart: Referee may have been swayed by Djeidi Gassama’s reputation
Gassama has been booked multiple times for diving this season at Rangers, with the winger failing to fool any officials.
The winger has also felt he was fouled multiple times beforehand, with the officials giving Gassama nothing at Ibrox.
However, against Dundee United, his effort to win a penalty was poor, with the attacker clearly going down too easily, with Will Ferry making little to no contract with the Rangers star.
Watching the incident on Premier Sports on 3 December, Stewart believes that the referee was so quick to make his decision due to the reputation the winger is developing.
He said: “David Dickinson was very quick, he was in a good position, and he felt straight away that Gassama has gone down.
“There aren’t too many protestations from Gassama; it’s 100 per cent the right decision.
“He tried to cut across Will Ferry and he just falls down. It is good refereeing, I’ve got to say.
“Gassama has done it before this season, he will go down a little bit easy and I am just wondering if that type of reputation starts to play on the referee’s mind a little because he was very quick, Dickinson.”
How did Gassama perform for Rangers vs Dundee United?
Apart from his diving, Gassama actually had a solid game for Rangers.
According to Fotmob on 3 December, the winger had four shots, one that hit the woodwork, created two chances, and even helped out defensively.
| Djeidi Gassama’s stats vs Dundee United | |
| Shots | 4 |
| Chances created | 2 |
| xG | 0.98 |
| Shots on target | 1 |
| Hit woodwork | 1 |
| Clearances | 3 |
Therefore, why Gassama feels the need to dive is baffling, especially when he can create so much when he is on the ball.
Hopefully, Danny Rohl will have a word with the winger and get him to put an end to this bad habit once and for all.
