Charlie Mulgrew blasts Jayden Meghoma despite ‘unbelievable’ scenes in Rangers draw vs Dundee United
Rangers picked up a late point against Dundee United on Wednesday, with few positives coming from the match.
A late penalty saved the Gers from a defeat in what was a lacklustre performance in the Scottish Premiership.
Very few Rangers players performed. However, one of the few bright sparks was Jayden Meghoma, who netted a wonderful equaliser in the first half from 30 yards.
Nevertheless, the full-back was quickly criticised by Charlie Mulgrew despite his wonderful effort.

Charlie Mulgrew: Jayden Meghoma was defensively poor vs Dundee United
Meghoma has not had the best start to his Rangers career.
The Brentford full-back has struggled in recent matches and with rumours that the Rangers could be targeting a new defender, his future in the starting XI has looked uncertain.
However, his goal was a bright spark for the youngster, with a wonderfully struck 30 yard shot that flew into the top corner.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on 3 December, Alan Hutton was quick to describe the goal as “unbelievable” as Meghoma scored his first senior goal.
That is SPECIAL! 😱😱

However, while Mulgrew was impressed with the effort, he was quick to highlight his poor defensive display to that point.
He said: “Defensively, he has been poor down that side alongside Fernandez, but the ball fell to him, and it is a nice, clean strike.
“You could argue that the keeper should move his feet quicker because he has a lot of time to see it.
“Whether it takes a deflection or not, I don’t know, but it is a good strike and a good finish.”

What do the stats say about Meghoma’s performance?
While Rangers’ overall performance was poor, the stats indicate that this wasn’t the case for everyone.
According to Sofascore on 3 December, Meghoma actually had a solid game against Dundee United.

On top of his goal, he rarely misplaced a pass and had plenty of shots at Dundee United’s net.
Also, the full-back was ok defensively, making five clearances throughout.
If Meghoma can put in these performances consistently, he could become a valuable asset in Rohl’s starting XI.
