Ibrox insiders speak out on Patrick Stewart after Rangers sack, it’s pretty damning
Derek Ferguson has offered some Ibrox insight into the sacking of chief executive Patrick Stewart this week.
Both Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell were dismissed on Monday, as Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers enterprises ran out of patience with the underperforming pair.
Rangers fans have carried out protests at Ibrox this season, which have been fuelled by the decisions made by the hierarchy, including Thelwell and Stewart.
The likes of summer signing Youssef Chermiti have struggled in the early stages of the campaign, and changes have now been made to avoid another recruitment disaster.

Patrick Stewart was ‘not strong enough’ for Rangers
Rangers have now officially finalised Stewart’s exit, ending his time at Ibrox less than a year after his original appointment.
Supporters will be delighted to see the back of the former Manchester United chief, who had been heavily criticised during his time in the role.
Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson has revealed to Ibrox News that some who had been around Stewart felt he was a weak character and not strong enough to be in charge of the Glasgow giants.
He said: “The squad is clearly not up to par and Rangers are in a worse position than they were a season ago. With all that money spent, [Stewart and Thelwell’s] vision for the football club has been underwhelming.
“There was only one option because the fans had read the script. The 49ers made a mistake, they’ve acknowledged it and fair play to them. It’s absolutely the right decision.

“I spoke to a few people who’ve attended meetings with Stewart, and the word that got back to me was that he was a pretty weak character, not strong enough. You can’t have that at Rangers; you need to be a strong character who can deal with certain situations.
“I know these guys have history in terms of clubs they’ve worked at, but they’ve totally underestimated Rangers and have been found out.”
Rangers lose millions after double exit
Sources have told Ibrox News that Rangers will have lost millions from the sacking of Stewart and Thelwell, especially given the duration of their stay.
Thelwell only made the move to Ibrox from Everton in the summer, but immediately felt the pressure after a disappointing window and a poor start to the season.
While Stewart was with the club for slightly longer than the sporting director, he also didn’t reach a year with the Bears.
This was ultimately a major error, but one that the 49ers have thankfully corrected.
