Rangers announced the huge decision to sack Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart on Monday.

Rangers parted ways with Thelwell and Stewart after a disastrous start to the season, which saw Russell Martin sacked after only weeks in charge.

Danny Rohl has since taken over and steadied the ship with some consistent form in the Scottish Premiership, but that hasn't prevented large changes at the top.

Rangers fan anger is said to have played a part in the sackings, with little positivity following one of the largest summer spends ever seen at Ibrox.

Sources with close knowledge of the finances behind these moves admitted that Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers are clearly not happy and decided to act quickly to change.

How much did Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart sacking cost?

Cavenagh spoke out after the news was confirmed, admitting that Rangers need to go in a different direction with changes ahead.

The same sources have told Ibrox News that the double exit will likely cost millions, especially given the timescales of their stays.

Thelwell made the move to Rangers from Everton in the summer, but baffling decisions like Youssef Chermiti costing upwards of £8million immediately placed him on the back foot.

Stewart has been around longer in Glasgow, but he has never quite been the flavour of the month among a very demanding fan base.

What next for Rangers?

Fraser Thornton has now assumed the temporary role of acting CEO, adding to his list of responsibilities from recent months at Ibrox.

Currently a director, Thornton was actually Rangers chairman following the exit of John Bennett before stepping aside under the new ownership.

With Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe happy with Rohl, the Americans are now on the hunt for high-profile appointments in the Ibrox boardroom.

Whoever that may be surely cannot be worse than Stewart and Thelwell, who appeared to make putting themselves on the back foot a hobby at Ibrox.

Finally, that saga is over, though, and the hefty pricetag to sort it will be remembered for some time.
