Bojan Miovski becomes ‘problem’ at Rangers as worrying trend emerges under Danny Rohl

Bojan Miovski’s misfortunes for Rangers have left them with the need to potentially sign another new striker at Ibrox.

Miovski registered an assist off the bench during Rangers’ 2-1 win over Livingston on Saturday, and it marks just his third goal contribution since joining the Bears in the summer.

Having moved from Spanish side Girona for a fee that could rise to £4.2million, there was huge optimism that he could replicate his goalscoring exploits at Aberdeen between 2022 and 2024.

Danny Rohl has placed little faith in Miovski, awarding him just two starts in all competitions since his arrival on 22 October.

Former Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew believes that Miovski’s struggles mean that Rangers need to invest in more attacking firepower in the January transfer window.

Bojan Miovski’s woes leave Rangers needing a striker in January

Mulgrew has previously urged Miovski to step up for the Bears, but the North Macedonian striker is not being given much of a chance under Rohl.

Despite starting two Scottish Premiership games under Rohl, he has only played 45 minutes in each of those matches.

In fact, he has not featured for more than 50 minutes in any of the seven games Rohl has taken charge of, sparking inevitable speculation that he could be up for sale in January.

Having already spent £10million on Youssef Chermiti, another striker who has underperformed, it seems abnormal that they need another number nine already.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show on 24 November, Mulgrew believes that Miovski has failed to deliver the goals that Rangers have needed this season.

He said: “I think they’ve definitely got a problem in the striker area. I expected more from Miovski.

“I don’t know what’s happened there, but when you’ve got a team pinned back, you need to have someone with a goal scorer’s instinct, and they don’t seem to have that.”

Miovski has clearly regressed over the last two seasons, and it’s unlikely that he’ll regain his confidence in front of goal with Rohl in charge.

The Light Blues are surely going to spend in the January transfer window, and the sackings of Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart will give supporters hope that they can make the right additions they desperately need.

Goal-scoring is a widespread issue across the Rangers team

It’s not just Miovski who has been disappointing in front of goal, as James Tavernier leads the scoring charts yet again in the Scottish Premiership after 12 games.

Tavernier is a brilliant attacking threat, but it seems scandalous that a right-back with four league goals is the one that the Bears are counting on at the moment.

Danilo has been brought back into the team and shown some signs of promise, and he looks to be the man that Rohl has placed the most trust in out of the three strikers.

The German head coach will be eagerly waiting for the January transfer window to start building his own squad, and Miovski’s lack of minutes are a clear sign that he might be one of the first players to go.
