Rangers handed prime opportunity to re-sign Ryan Kent after new contract developments
Ryan Kent is set to become a free agent following the expiration of his contract at MLS side Seattle Sounders FC.
Kent decided against signing a new deal at Ibrox when his contract ran out in June 2023.
Kent was a terrific player for Rangers across five illustrious seasons, and his high-profile exit has always been a controversial one.
Danny Rohl needs new signings in January to be able to compete for glory in the second half of the season, and Kent could be just the man for him.
Now, Rangers have their best chance yet at securing Kent’s return to Glasgow in a deal which is truly low-risk and an easy choice to make.

Seattle Sounders opt against Ryan Kent contract extension
Kent was a fantastic playmaker for Rangers and provided many assists on top of occasional goals during his stay with the Bears.
The Englishman became a fan favourite quickly at the Ibrox Stadium, but since his departure, attacking options now look bleak for Rangers.
It’s becoming increasingly obvious that a return is best for all parties, especially after Kent was linked with a move to Ibrox last January.

- Kent left Rangers in 2023 to join Fenerbache on a free transfer
- He helped Gers to a Europa League final in 2022
- Kent’s contract with Seattle Sounders runs until 31 December 2025, with a club option for an extension
In the print edition of the Scottish Daily Mail on Friday, journalist Gary Keown explained Kent’s situation in Seattle and why the MLS side chose “not to take up” the option of keeping him around.
Keown wrote: “Kent is set to become a free agent after an option to keep him at the MLS side Seattle Sounders was not taken up.
“The 29-year-old suffered an injury-scarred spell in the States, and reports suggest he is not being kept on.”
Yes, Kent has been poor since leaving, but Rangers can and should take a punt on a man who they know can deliver in pressure moments.
Rangers should take the gamble on Kent
Kent has managed just one goal in America and Turkey with 40 appearances in over two years after his injury issues.
The winger enjoyed the peak of his career in Glasgow, and a contract offer from Rangers would surely be an easy decision for him.
| Games | Goals | Assists | Trophies |
| 175 | 27 | 42 | x2 |
Rangers are in the driving seat here if they want to capitalise on the potential of a Kent return, as his form does not demand high wages.
At this stage in his career, Kent needs a move back to Ibrox, and Rangers should take the gamble.
The current ability of wingers for the Bears can be questioned, with every Gers fan knowing the true capabilities of Kent when he is fully fit.
