Old Firm stunner and winner in Europe: Ryan Kent’s best Rangers moments as door for Ibrox return opens

Ryan Kent is set to become a free agent once again, after MLS side Seattle Sounders reportedly decided against keeping the winger.

Rangers signed Kent from Liverpool in a deal worth £7million in 2019, after the forward had impressed in a loan spell for Steven Gerrard.

The England youth international would go on to score 33 goals and provide 56 assists across 218 games for the Gers, before departing in 2023.

Rangers were linked with a move to re-sign Kent in January, but ultimately opted against the move, with the 29-year-old instead signing for Seattle Sounders.

With Kent now set to leave Seattle Sounders on a free transfer, according to Gary Keown, Ibrox News looked at his best moments for Rangers.

Ryan Kent’s stunning season

Kent enjoyed his best Rangers form under Gerrard, during the former Liverpool midfielder’s time in charge at Ibrox.

An entire campaign can not exactly be defined as a moment, but it would feel wrong not to include Kent‘s 2020-21 season, such was its brilliance.

The winger scored 10 goals and provided nine assists as Rangers won the Scottish Premiership unbeaten. In all competitions, he would score 13 and provide 14.

With quick footwork, devastating pace and a ferocious finish, Kent was a constant threat for Rangers and was rightly nominated for Scottish Premiership Player of the Year.

The forward would never quite recreate the same form, but left Rangers fans with some superb memories.

Opening the scoring at Celtic Park

Kent played 21 Old Firm derbies throughout his time at Ibrox, scoring just three goals.

The most iconic of those came in 2019, when the winger and Nikola Katic scored to hand Rangers a famous win at Celtic Park.

Kent had opened the scoring in the first half, smashing in off the post after he had been found inside the box.

Despite controversy after Alfredo Morelos was sent off for diving late on, Rangers would emerge victorious.

At full-time, Gerrard would be pictured celebrating wildly, in scenes that later explained the positive feeling around Ibrox.

Winning away in Europe

Rangers would only make it to the Europa League last 16 in the 2019-20 season, but the campaign contained some superb moments.

After beating Portuguese side Braga in the home first leg of the intermediate stage, Rangers just needed to avoid defeat to qualify for the last 16.

But they would go one better, travelling away to put in a solid defensive performance in Europe before netting to leave with the 1-0 victory.

Kent got the only goal, and it was a brilliant one. Ianis Hagi had found the winger making a darting run through the middle, but there was still plenty for the Englishman to do.

The 29-year-old had the pace to beat the defender to the ball before driving low into the bottom corner and sending the away end into raptures.

Now-Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim could only grit his teeth on the sideline as Gerrard celebrated.
