Ryan Kent to Rangers transfer update emerges ahead of deadline

Rangers are unlikely to re-sign Ryan Kent despite him being a free agent, according to The 4th Official.

The news outlet posted on X (2 February) after new links emerged over a possible move to Iran.

Kent had been linked with a return to Ibrox after leaving Fenerbahce following the termination of his contract, but instead, Oscar Cortes will be relied upon when fit again.

Ryan Kent stories have abound since the winger was released from his contract with Fenerbahce but his wage demands and lack of game time, along with the poor final seasons at Ibrox always made it look unlikely,” they wrote.

“Stories that he’s off to play in Iran as they’ll let him keep his pet crocodiles in his bath seem on brand for the eccentric Englishman.

“The future for Rangers left wing seems to be Oscar Cortes if he can ever stay fit.”

Rangers will not be re-signing Ryan Kent anytime soon

It now looks highly unlikely Kent will be making a Rangers return, for a variety of reasons from his wage demands to the eccentric reports of crocodiles, to Nils Koppen’s preference for younger recruits (Daily Record, 4 January).

The Light Blues are anticipated to remain active until the final seconds of the window, with the squad overhaul still far from complete since the start of the summer.

Gers fans are buoyed by recent results including their Europa League success over Union Saint-Gilloise to qualify for the last 16 of the competition, before a rampant 4-0 victory over Ross County (2 February).

It would be another huge boost for their club to secure exciting new arrivals before the deadline slams down, but it will not be Kent, who remains a free agent.

Cortes has become a largely forgotten man among much of the fanbase with his rotten injury luck, but there is still time for the winger to become an Ibrox hero in the future.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues will have come to a transfer realisation on Cyriel Dessers after Sunday.
