Emmanuel Fernandez set for sink-or-swim moment vs Livingston in Rangers nightmare

Danny Rohl may be left with no choice but to play Emmanuel Fernandez against Livingston.

Rangers face Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday, in hopes of continuing their good start to life under Rohl in the Scottish Premiership.

Last time out, Rangers beat Dundee 3-0, and Rohl showed the first spark of a connection between himself and Gers fans in the post-match celebrations.

Rohl has made some decisions that have been easier than others, and clearly is not in favour of playing Fernandez, with John Souttar and Derek Cornelius ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, following updates on his centre-backs, Rohl might have Fernandez and Nasser Djiga as the only other options to play against Livi.

Rangers duo injured with Emmanuel Fernandez set to play vs Livingston

Souttar picked up a knock for Scotland and was absent for the heroic scenes witnessed against Denmark on Tuesday, with no updates since.

Cornelius also came off injured for Canada in a friendly match versus Venezuela during the break and will be another doubt in Govan.

Fernandez has been linked with a transfer away from Rangers, and he could be set up for his first and only outing under Rohl.

Chris Sutton was not impressed by Fernandez’s performance against St Mirren earlier in the season, as the defender was at fault for Gers’ conceding in the 1-1 draw.

In August, Sutton said: “It’s brainless defending. Where is the danger? Where is the defensive instinct?”

However, Rangers have since set their sights on signing a new centre-back in January, with Fernandez’ last attempt to impress most likely coming against Livingston.

Rangers are interested in signing Mujaid Sadick

From what I’ve seen, Fernandez is just not good enough to be a Rangers player.

That’s exactly why the Bears need to go all out for centre-back Mujaid Sadick in January.

Rangers have been linked with Sadick, who currently plays in the Belgian Pro League for Genk.

The 25-year-old would be a huge upgrade on Fernandez and would instantly add more quality to Rohl’s backline, but big money was already spent on his current options.

The German head coach will speak with the media on Friday while conducting press conference duties, which may seal the fate of Fernandez and his future playing chances and for the game against Livingston.
