Danny Rohl has January transfer priority at Rangers after shock Chris Sutton prediction

Rangers could still potentially beat Hearts to the William Hill Premiership title under Danny Rohl, Chris Sutton says.

It’s shocking to see the former Celtic star back the Gers, given he’s often taking shots at them due to his connections at Parkhead.

Rohl managed his third straight league win against Dundee on 9 November, closing the gap with the Jambos to 12 points after the 3-0 win at Dens Park, with the Light Blues also having a game in hand.

Andrew Cavenagh may be reluctant to let Kevin Thelwell spend more at the Glaswegian outfit in January, but the German manager should definitely ask for reinforcements in the coming weeks.

Rangers must beat Hearts and Celtic in January

Sutton believes whoever wins the “arms race” in the winter transfer window will win the William Hill Premiership this season.

The Englishman is interested to see how many players Rohl will sign in January, with the centre-forward position of concern at Ibrox.

It’s been encouraging to see the German manager being flexible with the Glaswegian outfit’s style of play since replacing Russell Martin, but he undoubtedly would like more quality at his disposal.

Speaking on the Record Celtic Podcast on 11 November, Sutton said: “I’m sure Rohl is, I don’t know what he’s thinking about the centre-forward position, but he chops and changes so much, so it’ll be interesting to see how many players he brings in.”

The ex-Celtic star added: “I still think that there’s a possibility that Rangers can win the league. They’re hanging on in there. I think it’s all about who wins the arms race in January that will win the league”

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Rohl demand new signings at Ibrox in January, but it remains to be seen who the Gers will be able to afford.

Danny Rohl will want to make one permanent signing at Ibrox

Nasser Djiga’s loan move to Ibrox from Wolves hasn’t worked out, and the Light Blues should consider sending him back sooner than expected.

Rangers also signed Max Aarons, Emmanuel Fernandez and Jayden Meghoma from down south to improve their defence in the summer, but it’s safe to say a majority of Thewell’s signings have flopped.

Derek Cornelius has arguably been one of the better additions to the Glaswegian outfit’s squad, and Rohl should look to make his loan move permanent, with an option to buy in the deal.

The defence could potentially be a priority for the Gers next year, and it would make sense to prepare in January for James Tavernier, Aarons, Djiga and Meghoma’s eventual departures.
