Rangers fans to fume as Nicolas Raskin January transfer hint dropped in meeting

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have demonstrated incompetence in their roles as Rangers search for a new manager, and selling Nicolas Raskin may further strain their relationship with fans.

Kevin Muscat is leading the race to fill the Ibrox vacancy, but supporters may have to wait until the Chinese Super League season ends on 22 November to see him at the Gers.

The Shanghai Port head coach is on course to win his second consecutive league title, but the Light Blues should have no obligation to wait for him.

Apart from the shambles of the Glaswegian outfit’s hunt for a new head coach, fans in G51 will also be worried about Tottenham keeping tabs on Raskin, and the possibility of a transfer in January seems conceivable.

Rangers to invest in January transfer window, but at a cost

James Taylor, the Gers’ chief financial officer, has claimed that they will look to invest in the squad in the upcoming transfer window.

In the most recent meeting with the fan advisory board, the Light Blues’ CFO shared that “player movement is expected in January” to fulfil the commitment of getting reinforcements at Ibrox.

The Glaswegian outfit had a net spend of around £20million in the summer, but apart from Djeidi Gassama, it can be argued that none of the other 12 players have lived up to expectations.

While Muscat will certainly have a few quality players in his mind who could strengthen the squad in G51, that may come at a cost.

Raskin is undoubtedly the most valuable asset at Ibrox right now, but a sale in January arguably won’t leave fans pleased.

The 24-year-old Belgium international has been one of the best players in Scotland in recent months, and while his contract has around 18 months left, an exit can surely wait until next summer.

Nicolas Raskin to be pivotal for Kevin Muscat at Ibrox

Raskin’s apparent falling out with Russell Martin may have been affecting his performances at the Gers, with the midfielder shining for Belgium this season.

Despite Rangers going through one of their toughest spells in recent history, they still have a chance to get back into the race for the William Hill Premiership title, and keeping the former Standard Liege star could potentially be key to doing that.

Muscat’s aggressive style of play may be exactly what Raskin needs to get back to his best at Ibrox, and the Australian manager would do well to keep him until the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

The recent volatility at the Gers is concerning, but supporters will hope the American owners see sense by retaining the midfielder beyond the winter window.
