BBC Sportsound pundit can’t believe what he’s seen in Rangers vs Dundee United
Rangers looked like a different side in the first half against Dundee United in the William Hill Premiership on Saturday.
Jim Goodwin’s team have travelled to Ibrox on 18 October as the visitors look to take advantage of the managerial crisis in G51.
Steven Smith is the interim manager as talks continue for Kevin Muscat, and the Light Blues’ Under-19 head coach is getting his first experience in the dugout.
While it’s the same players who struggled under Russell Martin, there was an air of confidence among them in the opening 45 minutes.

Thelo Aasgaard scored magnificent goal for Rangers vs Dundee United
Ian McCall could believe Thelo Aasgaard’s finish for the Gers’ opening goal against Dundee United.
The former Scottish midfielder has been impressed with the 23-year-old’s performance at Ibrox, with his goal the pick of the moment.
In the 25th minute, the Norway international took the ball from around the halfway line and went on to score a brilliant solo strike after beating a couple of defenders.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound on 18 October, McCall said: “That’s just an unbelievable finish. He has been the most impressive player. There are three or four things he’s done in this game that have been marvellous, but that would be the pick of them.”
The delay in Muscat’s appointment at Ibrox is concerning, but the players will be expected to do the job under Smith until a permanent manager is officially appointed.
It’s clear to see that Martin’s style of play wasn’t resonating with the players, as evidenced by the Glaswegian outfit’s display in the first half.
Russell Martin sack his own doing at Ibrox
Martin’s sacking at Ibrox felt inevitable for a long time, and the Gers finally pulled the plug after dropping points against Falkirk.
Consistently poor performances marred the Scottish manager’s tenure at Rangers as he failed to bring the best out of the squad.

Nicolas Raksin has had a much more influential role at the Light Blues under Smith, and the falling out with the former Southampton boss was surely affecting him.
Martin was the architect of his own demise at the Glaswegian outfit, as the team shouldn’t have been eighth in the league table ever.
