Kevin Muscat to Rangers gathers pace as start date emerges at Ibrox with likely assistant named
Kevin Muscat may finally realise his opportunity to manage Rangers as Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe get close to an appointment.
Russell Martin was sacked after the Falkirk draw, leaving the Gers with time to find a replacement during the international break.
While the Light Blues have had the chance to review potential candidates, Steven Gerrard’s snub at Ibrox has led to massive drama, with the American ownership scrambling for a new boss before the Dundee United fixture on 18 October.
Muscat now looks like the favourite to succeed Martin, but fans in G51 may have to wait before seeing him at the Glaswegian outfit.

Rangers may have to wait until Chinese Super League ends for Kevin Muscat and Neil McCann appointment
It looks like Muscat’s arrival as the new manager, with Neil McCann as the assistant, is gaining traction at the Gers, according to David Edgar.
The Heart & Hand Podcast revealed on 14 October that the 52-year-old head coach’s return to Ibrox is gathering pace, but there may be a slight catch.
As things stand, the Chinese Super League ends on 22 November, with Shanghai Port on course to retain their title, and the Light Blues may have to wait until then to get him.
The Hearts & Hand Podcast wrote on X: “Muscat with McCann as assistant seems to be gathering pace. I’d feel more comfortable if he was arriving as soon as possible rather than seeing out the Chinese season (ends 22 November). We have a lot of big games coming up.”

Muscat spent time at the Glaswegian outfit as a player between 2002 and 2003, as he was part of the domestic treble-winning squad in G51.
It appears the Gers are willing to wait for the right appointment to avoid risking similar failures to those they experienced with Martin.
Ibrox manager drama gives further twist and turns
Danny Rohl was recently seen as the frontrunner for the Ibrox vacancy, but the latest information would suggest that’s no longer the case.
Cavenagh and Marathe can’t afford to make any more mistakes at Rangers, as fans have grown frustrated with some board members like Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart already.

The US consortium should know that they could be the next target of the supporters’ fury in G51 if the incoming manager fails to turn the tide.
With some key fixtures against the likes of Brann, Celtic and Roma before 22 November, it would make sense to appoint Muscat immediately.
