Neil Lennon lashes out at ‘horrendous’ Rangers fans after footage he recently saw
Russell Martin was finally sacked as Rangers manager following the 1-1 draw to Falkirk on 5 October.
Martin has been under pressure for weeks, yet two winless games in quick succession to Sturm Graz and Falkirk spelt the end of his Rangers career.
Rangers fan unrest had been growing in Glasgow, with the majority of supporters furious at Martin’s ineffective playing style.
Andrew Cavenagh had no choice but to sack Martin after his position with the fans became untenable.

Russell Martin give a police escort out of Falkirk Stadium
After the draw to Falkirk, Police had to escort Martin out of the ground to protect him from dozens of Bears fans who were livid with yet another uninspiring performance.
Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has now hit back at Rangers supporters for their treatment of Martin during the incident, as footage emerged of him walking across the pitch to escape.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun Sport, Lennon said: “It’s horrendous. I’m looking at the club, and I’m wondering if they can do more to safeguard him.
“You see him walking across the pitch with his security, but he won’t be thinking about his personal safety; he’ll be thinking about what he could have done better.
“He’ll probably have time now to down tools and have a think about what went wrong, but he’s a human being at the end of the day.”

Whilst fans were clearly angry over Martin’s position in Govan, the levels of abuse are certainly unparalleled by anything that has been witnessed before.
After Max Aarons’ last-minute winner against Livingston, fans weren’t swept away in the euphoria, and they immediately continued to call for Martin’s dismissal.
The writing had been on the wall for Martin since the Champions League exit to Club Brugge in August, and now supporters anxiously await who will become the next Rangers manager.
Steven Gerrard looks to be the favourite in the Rangers managerial race, and fans will certainly afford him more time to work with his new players on his return to G51.

Rangers fans got what they wanted after scenes vs Falkirk
Martin has become the worst manager in Rangers’ history, and he is quite lucky that he was afforded enough time to get the best out of his players for so long.
Light Blues fans boycotted his last two matches at Ibrox against Hibernian and Genk, and Cavenagh could not keep taking financial hits as long as Martin was in charge.
Ibrox can be vociferous at the best of times, yet volatile at the worst, and the 39-year-old found that out way too quickly into his Rangers tenure.
It is now up to the supporters to back the struggling group of players under a manager who surely can’t do worse than Martin.
