Steven Gerrard complications emerge as new Rangers manager latest revealed

Rangers could face difficulty in their efforts to appoint Steven Gerrard.

The Ibrox club are on the hunt for a new head coach after Rangers opted to sack Russell Martin after just 17 matches in charge.

Martin required a police escort at Falkirk in a moment that represented the final straw for the Englishman in Govan on 5 October.

Gerrard has now emerged as a target for Rangers, with a return to G51 potentially on the cards for the former Light Blues boss.

However, the Gers may now face a problem in their efforts to land Gerrard as they begin the process of bringing in a new manager.

Steven Gerrard to open complicated Rangers talks

After poor spells with both Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq, the 45-year-old has been without a dugout role since January.

Gerrard revealed to Rio Ferdinand that he had unfinished business as a head coach, but is awaiting the right role to come up.

Rangers may prove to be that landing destination after Martin was forced out after a terrible stint in charge of the Light Blues.

Sky Sports News reported on 7 October that the Gers want to speak to Gerrard, and he is open to holding conversations with the Govan outfit.

These talks won’t be straightforward for several reasons, one being the failed attempt to secure the services of the ex-England international before Martin in the summer.

The others come as the Liverpool legend is happy living in Bahrain with his family and would require reassurances over the project at Ibrox.

Gerrard would make for ideal Martin replacement

The Bears had grown increasingly frustrated with Martin as his tactical approach and managerial style were unsuccessful in G51.

A change to a familiar face who is likely to have the full backing of the Govan faithful could prove to be a wise appointment by Andrew Cavenagh and Co.

Gerrard would come in and immediately command more respect from the squad and supporters based on his previous spell alone.

It will be up to the decision of the ex-midfielder whether he wants to return to Ibrox, but an offer from the Light Blues may be too good to turn down.
