Rangers could face further payout at Ibrox as commission reviews incident

Rangers continue to face bad news despite the sacking of Russell Martin in recent days.

While Rangers search for Martin’s replacement, Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh‘s next decision could be a turning point at Ibrox.

Cavenagh and Marathe penned a letter to Rangers fans on Monday after much-needed communication was given to the Gers fans after a catastrophic start to the season.

While the Rangers hierarchy decides on the potential appointment of Steven Gerrard, they also have to keep in mind their next financial blow could soon hit.

This comes after ugly scenes at Falkirk.

Football authorities to investigate Russell Martin’s Rangers police escort

Rangers already have to pay off Martin’s hefty compensation after appointing the coach on a three-year deal, likely hitting seven figures.

His sacking came just hours after Martin required a police escort after Rangers‘ 1-1 draw with Falkirk on Sunday, as the team bus was blocked in by fans.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, football finance expert Dan Plumley shared insight into why and how Rangers could be in for a financial setback due to their own fans’ behaviour against Falkirk.

“I would say so, and again, I think added cost, definitely for security purposes,” he said when quizzed on possible sanctions.

“The things that we saw, whether a club would get fined for its own fans, potentially, I think is, is the term to use.

“Of course, all of these things are kind of done on an independent, case-by-case basis and looked at by a commission that’s part of the regulatory framework of any league.

“You’ve got penalties and fines, commissions and things like that.

“Those are set by governing bodies, so it’s ultimately the football authorities, I think here that you’ll be looking at, and it will be their judgment call on whether or not they feel that’s worthy of a fine.

“We’ve not seen it happen too many times, but, you know, I guess the direct answer is it’s a possibility, but I think unlikely, with this particular example, especially given he’s now been sacked since that event.

“But certainly you’ve got the, the extra cost factor that somebody’s gotta bear because of, of the extra security needed around the manager.”

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe need to improve the Rangers squad

With Rangers already spending over £20m in the summer transfer window, Martin‘s compensation, and a potential fine coming their way, things aren’t looking great.

The new head coach will have good players at his disposal, but with Martin’s shocking reign, it’s clear to see that some of the players bought in the summer just aren’t up to Rangers’ level.

Cavenagh and Marathe need to dip their hands in their pockets in January and use whatever money they have to give the new head coach a fighting chance of turning things around.

All eyes will currently be on a commission’s decision, though.
