Rangers players told to stay away from Auchenhowie on order of top Ibrox chiefs

Rangers are set for a major change as Russell Martin was sacked after the 1-1 draw against Falkirk on Sunday.

The Gers decided to part ways with the Scottish manager after dropping more points in the William Hill Premiership on 5 October.

It wasn’t surprising to see Martin get the sack at Ibrox, with fans protesting against the former Southampton boss after consistent failures this season.

The likes of Nicolas Raskin didn’t really light up the pitch against Falkirk, and with some players off to the international break, the hierarchy have handed out orders to the players following the 39-year-old head coach’s dismissal.

Rangers hierarchy buy themselves time to appoint Russell Martin replacement

Players who aren’t on international break have been told not to report for training until the end of the week, according to the Daily Record.

The news outlet reports on 6 October that the hierarchy at Ibrox have given the first-team squad the majority of this week off at Auchenhowie as they look for a new manager.

It’s been claimed that the Light Blues haven’t put an interim management team in place after sacking the ex-Saints boss, and it remains to be seen who will make their way to the dugout in G51.

Steven Gerrard has been heavily linked with a return to Ibrox, and a lot of fans would undoubtedly like to see him back at the Glaswegian outfit.

The Liverpool icon ended the Gers’ 10-year wait for a league title in 2021, and since his departure to Aston Villa, they haven’t been the same.

With the Martin experiment at the Light Blues not working out, it would make sense to go with someone who’s familiar with the environment in G51.

James Tavernier needs to show leadership after Russell Martin sack

James Tavernier was mooted to replace Martin in a player-manager role by one Gers fans recently, and he must now get the group together.

While the idea of giving the right-back the authority to lead Rangers arguably wouldn’t be the best option, he should use his authority to galvanise the group.

Martin’s managerial record at the Gers

Whoever the new manager is at the Gers will need the players to be in high spirits if they hope to turn things around this season.

The likes of Tavernier and John Souttar must calm the nerves in the Glaswegian outfit’s dressing room as they go through a crisis under the new ownership.
