Barry Ferguson could ‘change his mind’ after Russell Martin sack at Rangers

Barry Ferguson could be lined up for a sensational return to Rangers, just months after his exit.

Ferguson came in after Rangers sacked Philippe Clement in February, and steadied the ship in Govan as much as was possible.

However, he was not handed the role on a permanent basis in the summer, with the new hierarchy choosing to go with Russell Martin.

Martin has now been sacked by Rangers after just 17 games in charge, with just one win in his opening seven league matches.

Barry Ferguson to ‘change his mind’ after Russell Martin sack at Rangers

Ferguson is not expected to return to Rangers, with disappointment over the way he was treated in the summer.

Michael Grant has shared how Ferguson feels about returning to Auchenhowie in an interim role, if that offer was received, after Martin was sacked, hinting that there could be a surprise in store.

Speaking to BBC Scotland on 6 October, he said: “Barry Ferguson was in charge from February to May last season.

Ferguson’s hinted that he wouldn’t come back on an interim basis again, but maybe he’ll change his mind if that offer becomes real.”

Rangers should look elsewhere as Ferguson doubts remain

It seems as though there is still doubt that Ferguson would take the role on an interim basis, if he was given the chance.

Gers supporters should be seeking a better option than that, after his last spell in the dugout, which was torrid, considering where the Glasgow giants should be.

The 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh should be looking for a long-term option, one that can take the Bears to the next level and fix the damage that the ex-Southampton man has caused.

They have serious work to rebuild their relationship with supporters already, with many making their feelings known after Martin’s dismal spell in charge.

They will not help themselves to restore positivity if they bring Ferguson back, as although he is a Gers legend for his actions on the pitch, his skills in the dugout are not up to par and would likely result in another sack.
