‘I have it on good authority Russell Martin has disregarded Rangers history despite being warned’
Russell Martin isn’t the most popular figure at Rangers, and he has no one but himself to blame.
The Scottish manager is on thin ice in G51 after losing to Sturm Graz in the Europa League on 2 October, with the Gers losing their last five European fixtures under the new management.
Martin’s sacking feels inevitable at Ibrox, with the Light Blues’ domestic and European prospects looking bleak under the 39-year-old head coach.
The former Southampton boss has lost the faith of the fanbase and could potentially lose the backing of the American ownership soon, as he has arguably failed to compromise on his ideas.

Rangers told Russell Martin to wear suit in Ibrox dugout
Martin was advised that not wearing a suit as a Gers manager would have consequences, Jonny McFarlane says.
The Scottish journalist reveals that he’s been told the Scottish manager ignored warnings of the Ibrox faithful not being pleased with his wardrobe decision.
Seeing the ex-Saints boss disregard a historic component of the job at the Glaswegian outfit should have been the first indication for Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises that he wasn’t the right person for the job.

Speaking on The Rangers Review on 4 October, McFarlane said: “Martin came in and looked at that history and said, ‘That’s not for me, I sweat, so I can’t wear a suit.’ To me, that just speaks to a certain lack of understanding.
“And I have it on good authority that he was warned prior to the start of the season that he should be wearing a suit because the fans won’t like it if you don’t. It’s a really important thing. And he didn’t listen, and he disregarded that aspect of the club’s history that goes back 100 years.”
Russell Martin continuity at Ibrox a disgrace
It’s a shame to see Martin still under contract at Ibrox, despite breaking several unwanted records at the Gers, one of which is leading the club to their worst league start in 47 years after five fixtures.
The Scottish manager’s failures at the Light Blues has led to a sense of apathy in G51 at this point, with fans just wanting to see the back of him.

With little signs of improvement under the former Southampton boss, it doesn’t make sense for the hierarchy to stick by him.
Rangers should have sacked Martin in Austria, with the team now predicted to finish 34th in the Europa League table, knocking them out of the competition.
The Gers still have time to salvage the season, but the Scottish manager certainly isn’t the answer for their turnaround.
