Mark Van Bommel ‘contact made’, Rangers now have Russell Martin priority
Rangers should be looking at someone like Mark Van Bommel to replace Russell Martin.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich star won the league title as manager with Royal Antwerp before leaving them in 2024.
Van Bommel confirmed recently that he held talks at Ibrox for the hotseat before the former Southampton boss was hired at the Gers.
Patrick Stewart may have ruled out someone like Sean Dyche’s appointment as the Gers look to play an attacking brand of football under the ownership of Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, and now they have no time to waste.

Eyupspor want Mark Van Bommel as Rangers should sack Russell Martin
Turkish outfit Eyupspor have made contact with Van Bommel as they look to hire a new manager, according to Ertan Suzgun.
The Yeni Acik journalist revealed on X on 5 October that the Super Lig outfit want the 48-year-old Dutch as they’ve sacked Selcuk Sahin after losing 1-0 to Kocaelispor.
Martin’s sacking at Ibrox feels inevitable, and there’s no point in the Gers delaying his departure despite the consistently poor performances in G51.
The Glaswegian outfit risk missing out on Van Bommel if they continue to persist with the Scottish manager.

With the Light Blues in an apparent crisis right now, the decision-makers need to take hold of the club and try to steady the ship.
Fan anger is at a boiling point at the Gers, and it seems like a matter of time before they start to revolt against Cavenagh and the 49ers for their lack of leadership amid the club’s struggles.
Jose Mourinho lesson needs to be taken at Ibrox
Jose Mourinho joined Benfica recently despite heavy links to Ibrox, and the Gers shouldn’t make the mistake of missing out on potential Martin replacements again.
It’s clear that the Scottish manager isn’t the right fit for Rangers, but it remains to be seen how long the hierarchy stick by him.

There certainly are other head coaches out there who can bring better performances out of the current squad at Ibrox.
The Light Blues shouldn’t be in the position they find themselves in domestically and in Europe under Martin, and it’s time the American owners recognised their mistakes.
