Rangers are set to appoint Robbie Thelwell as their new head of recruitment at Ibrox.
The 26-year-old is Kevin Thelwell’s son, leading to suggestions among the fans that nepotism is at play in G51.
With supporters already disillusioned after Russell Martin’s failures at Ibrox, a growing sense of pessimism is emerging towards the Gers’ hierarchy.
Now may not be the right time for Thelwell senior to bring Robbie to Glasgow, given that the sporting director is not the most popular figure right now.

The former Scotland international has wished the Englishman the best for his potential tenure at Ibrox, but is undoubtedly surprised to see it happen right now.
It’s unusual to see the Glaswegian outfit making these changes to their backroom staff during a period when fans have lost faith in the current management.
Speaking on TNT Sports 2 on 2 October at 20:46, McCoist said: “All I would say is I don’t know the lad. I wish him all the best. But from where I’m sitting, it’s bizarre.”

Kevin Thelwell should leave Ibrox with Russell Martin
Thelwell’s future should be under serious consideration at Ibrox, with the sporting director undoubtedly to blame for some of the Gers’ recent failures.
The former Everton chief oversaw the arrival of 12 new players at the Light Blues in the summer, and it can be argued that only Djeidi Gassama has been a success.
With the Glaswegian outfit’s underwhelming recruitment strategy despite heavy investment from Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, tough questions must be asked in G51.

- Martin has a win rate of 31 per cent at the Light Blues.
- The Glaswegian outfit have now gone 22 away games without a clean sheet, equalling a 128-year-old record.
Martin lost his sixth game of the season at Rangers against Sturm Graz, and it should be the final time the Scottish manager takes charge of them.
The 39-year-old head coach has failed to implement his style at the Gers, and his tenure has undoubtedly become untenable.
Thelwell and Martin should pack their bags once the Light Blues return from Austria.
