Ross McCausland transfer latest emerges as six-figure obligation set to be triggered at Rangers

Rangers loaned out Ross McCausland to Aris Limassol in the summer.

McCausland is the fourth current player in the Aris squad to have played for Rangers, alongside Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun and Wes Foderingham.

Goldson is in his second season in Cyprus, making 32 appearances last season, and Foderingham signed in the summer, playing just once in the league.

McCausland has started well and could be set to make his move permanent very shortly.

Aris Limassol close to permanent McCausland transfer

McCausland signed for the Rangers academy in 2019 from Northern Irish side Linfield and went on to make his debut in May 2022 in a 3-1 win over Hearts.

After the sacking of Michael Beale during the 2023/24 season, McCausland managed a run of games under interim manager Steven Davis, and following that, Philippe Clement.

McCausland ironically scored his first goal for Rangers against Aris Limassol in the Europa League, where he came on as a substitute for Todd Cantwell.

He went on to play 66 times for Rangers before Aris Limassol agreed on a loan deal, where he has scored three goals already this season.

According to the Daily Record (30 September, pg 46), McCausland is already close to triggering a permanent transfer to Aris in January.

It is said that Aris have an obligation to sign McCausland for a six-figure transfer fee if he makes a set number of appearances.

Pressure mounts on Russell Martin

Rangers have struggled for results so far this season, picking up just one win in the Scottish Premiership.

Russell Martin’s side have struggled in front of goal, scoring just five times in the league, which is somehow the second least of any team.

James Tavernier sits at the top of the scoring charts on three, nearly equaling his tally of five for last season, with those in the final third needing to step up.

Tavernier has come under some scrutiny, with some people believing the captain should speak up and raise the issues of the team with Martin.

McCausland was never the answer, though, and a permanent move is best for all parties.
