Rangers push Ross McCausland with contract offer amid £350k Premier League transfer interest

Rangers have sent a new contract offer to Ross McCausland in order to head off interest from the English Premier League, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported via Twitter on 11 November that the Gers are “pushing to tie” the young winger down as he would be entitled to leave for just £350,000 in compensation this summer.

The Northern Irishman “impressed again” in front of scouts from south of the border in the Europa League win over Sparta Prague in midweek.

Romano wrote: “Exclusive: Rangers have sent their proposal to talent Ross McCausland for new contract valid until June 2027.

“Ross impressed again in Europa League in front of PL clubs scouts, now Rangers pushing to tie him down as compensation fee would be £350k in the summer.”

Urgent

McCausland is arguably the brightest young talent in the senior squad currently under Philippe Clement so the last thing the Belgian will want is to see the 20-year-old slip out of Ibrox any time soon.

With such a small potential compensation fee currently on the cards the absolute least the club would want to secure is a far more significant transfer fee if the wide man’s head was turned.

But after Michael Beale’s summer overhaul saw a lot of width and pace leave the club McCausland’s position at Ibrox has become all the more important.

Abdallah Sima has emerged as crucial but the likes of Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence just can’t stay fit, and their junior teammate is taking advantage of the increased opportunities.

He has quadrupled his number of Rangers appearances already this season with six, after one each in the previous two campaigns.

And he is surely in line to make his first ever start for the club in the near future as Clement appears to be impressed.

So it is quite right for the club to react swiftly and look to head off interest from the English top flight before it becomes too late.

In other Rangers news, another manager has tipped a first-team member to leave on loan in order to solve a mystery over his game.
